    Our usual  Friday walk to Jeddah corniche was changed to swimming and friday brunch (instead of breakfast picnic at the park).We had a blast at the pool and a breakfast buffet, a combination of manaquessh ( bread with either bread or spinach and zatar) and Tutsilog (Tuyu-small dried fish,fried rice and fried egg).

    Having a full day off once a week would not be meaningful without seeing our family friends. Unfortunately,there’s not much free choices, hence mostly if not all  restaurants are closed early in the morning.

    We usually walk along  Jeddah corniche and ended in a public park to have picnic breakfast. Our favourite park was once green but not anymore. Not only  the walls and post are painted with drawing and writings that I don’t understand the meaning, garbage can also be found at every corner, which is a regular sight in  other Jeddah parks and streets.

    Jeddah streets are actually full of beautiful arts, statues done by famous artist, public parks and children’s playground, sad to say, all are not maintained well and people don’t pay attention to proper waste disposal.

    Who wants to be surrounded by garbage anyway?

    NO ONE!

    As an expatriates for 26th years in Jeddah, KSA , we always look forward for the most awaited holiday of the year – Eid Al adha (after ramadan) and Eid al Fitir (after hajj).

    While the rich and famous opted to go outside the Kingdom for holiday, we the expatriates stayed and spend a day or two in either private beach or public beach. Along the corniche you will find families and friends in sea-side picnic. This is also the day of “sweets” people buys cakes, sweets and chocolates, restaurants and caffè are also fully booked!

    Juice world in Palestine street is a refreshing site with a refreshing menu. You can order a combination of fresh  fruit juices and salad with or without ice cream on top. There are about 125 options to choose from. Fresh fruits of pineapple, oranges, pomegranate and mango hanging from the ceiling to the floor.

  • Eid Mubarak: Visiting Jeddah Gold Souk

    Eid Mubarak (blessed Eid) celebrating the end of Ramadan, people went to buy gifts for their love ones, usually in the form of gold jewelries or with electronic gadgets, sweets and chocolates, employees receive a month bonus, others are lucky to have even more!

    We decided to visit the Gold Souk (market of gold) in old town Jeddah just to know if we can afford the soaring prices under the soaring hot weather of Jeddah.

    Surprisingly the price of gold went down from SR 220 per gram to Sr 150-160 per gram. Available in 18-21-24 K different designs.Unfortunately, at this time I can’t afford to buy any jewellery for myself, so I just took a lot of pictures for you to see.

    Even silver and precious stones are not affordable on my budget. 😦

    Oh! by the way, fake jewelries are also available in small stores, an exact copies of the original jewelries .

    Oh well, I had fun looking and appreciating the craftsmanship so ladies I leave you with this quote:

  • Ramadan: after Iftar at Cookshop

    Two days before Eid holiday, my friends and I decided to have a little escapades to places we haven’t been and one that caught our attention was a small coffee shop going along the corniche side.

    At first, when we read the sign “Cook shop” we thought that it’s a place like “shabu shabu” but coffee shop and shabu-shabu??  hmm doesn’t really matched!

    So we get in, the place is simple but cozy, staff were friendly and the food were serve fast and tasty too!
