  • 2017

tulip-83aIt’s been quite awhile I haven’t published any blog, I thank my followers and readers who patiently waited and kept sending me letters to ask how am I doing. Thank you!

The previous months after my birthday was indeed busy tortuous months. I could not bring an inspiration to write, I froze!

I know this too will pass and everything will be back to normal.Let us count the blessing we received for the past years and we move forward to year 2017 and the years to come.

Let us not forget the people who were not able to celebrate new year with a bang! Let us not forget the years we received blessings. Let us not forget we are human who makes mistakes and uttered some words that may hurt others but really doesn’t mean it.Let us not forget the material possessions we have areΒ only a fraction of what we should be wishing this year.

Let us remember the love and respect we have given and received, to continue to work on the matter that is important and not the superficial things we acquire and require to get the happiness that we think will suffice our life.

Let us pray for kindness, peace and love to everyone.

2017 beginning is tough but I am ready for you!

    #thank you Lord.

    cheers,

    Jamilamimi

  • Age 57 and counting…bucket list?

new-doc-34_1At age 57 and beyond… Do I still have a bucket list? Β  You bet!

I have plenty of it! A bucket of fats… extra kilo πŸ™‚ Β a bucket of wrinkles and bulge…kidding aside:-) yeah of course, I still have things I haven’t done and would love to try to… things that I have done and would like to do it all over again.

I guess all I have done since I got married, have children and got separated …is a bucket list of how to survive for all of them, support them in any way I can, caring and loving them more than myself.

Well, I guess it’s about time to remember my bucket list for myself before I even forgot I have a list too!

LoveΒ  Oh yeah! that’s the top on my list. I have given so much that I forgot how it is being in love. Sure, my sons will always be there but I know sooner or later they will also have their own family, their own love .I would like to find someone who would inspire me to get out of the bed with a smile on my lips, start the day right and energized.I would like to have someone who can make me laugh and not cry.I like to find someone who appreciates my value in his life, who would take an extra minute to listen to my boring stories and to take me to a movie (no matter how boring it is) to a dance (even though he doesn’t know how) in short, I would like to find someone who love the way I do.Call me crazy ! (with my eyes rolling up high) And one day ,I would also Β like to hold his hand, look into his eyes and take our vow, no promises of extravagance just a simple life of togetherness and love, in sickness or in health, Alzheimer or Β not, till the sun rises and set…wow! I am really into this πŸ™‚

    mi2016alright let’s move on…

TravelΒ If I have a chance I would like to see “The great pyramid of Giza” the only one surviving from the seven wonder of the Ancient world. Next is to visit the new seven wonders of the modern world.I had the chance to visit Petra in Jordan, so I have five left. The great wall of china, the colosseum of Rome ,Chitchen Itza of Mexico,Macchu Picchu of Peru,Taj Mahal of India and the Christ Redeemer of Brazil. And I also would like to go back to Paris and more πŸ™‚ you know if you’re putting something on the bucket list, make it grand! at least there are choices and it doesn’t hurt if u can travel to one or two. It’s a blessing!

Learn an instrumentΒ I enjoyed listening to music, watch live orchestra or musical concert and it is my dream to learn how to play piano or violin. I know someday I gonna do it.

Self publish a bookΒ I would like to publish my own memo, though I am sharing my experiences on my blog, there are a lot more to explore like how and why I am still here in Saudi Arabia? or then and now of living in Saudi Arabia or who knows? my own love story (the rise and fall) really? let’s see πŸ™‚

Learn how to swimΒ Yeah! I only knew how to float but not to really swim. I love to go to the beach , who doesn’t? but can’t really explore because I am scared to drown. I also want to learn how to snorkel and even scuba diving. wow! I see your eyebrow is up!

Learn how to driveΒ everyone knew, women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, so there’s always from the back of my mind, I wish I can drive so I can go to places without being at the mercy of unruly drivers.

There are more things I would love to explore but I’ll reserve it when I am sixty πŸ™‚

Ladies, I think if you feel like doing something different or learn new things, this is NOW, children are already grown up, chasing their own dream…don’t just sit there because you feel old, be a part of the now generation, be young in mind and spirit.Continue to be an inspiration,be active and you will find a new breath of life.

    So, what am I doing on my birthday? snooze! Z Z Z Z Z Z Β two thumbs up!

next blog pls! the bday dinner πŸ™‚

    Cheers,

  • Mermaid’s Secret Haven – airbnb

AirbnB – stands for airbed and breakfast, but that was then …today you can actually rent the whole place and make your own breakfast. πŸ™‚

I heard about airbnb from my two sons, the first time I was going to visit them in Los Angeles. It’s cheaper than hotel and it feels like your home, but I want to feel like I’m on vacation… I don’t want to cook my own meal, clean my place, I like to stay in a hotel.

    Try mom!

Alright! We stayed one week in Sta. Monica, the host is kind and the place is neat and clean, though I still think , hotel is way better but if you’re thinking to save some money for shopping πŸ™‚ Β airbnb is a choice!

This is the second time I tried airbnb, this time in Hawaii for two weeks. My children would like to feel local, ok ladies, I am not rolling my eyes but my kind of holiday is like..staying in the hotel, spa, guided tours and shopping, I guess that’s my definition of a tourist. (in my own vocabulary)

What is like being a tourist and a local at the same time?

One thing is to rent a house far away from where the tourist usually crowds. I rented “Mermaid’s Secret Haven” in Kaneohe,Hi. Indeed, the place is far from the airport and a car is a necessity . If you have used the airbnb app, the pictures are exactly what you can find at Katrina’s place. I find her very charming and polite host.

    img_5989
    welcome treat from the host

It’s a one bedroom/bathroom apartment which is attached to the main house but has a separate entrance. It is complete with all the things you need while on vacation, plenty of different kinds of towels, even picnic basket, cooler and snorkelling gears are available.

Though the place is far from the centre, it is a few minutes drive from the malls and nice beaches around the island. Nearer to the North shore and Kailua beach. As the days passed, I really didn’t feel that was a far place.

I love the serenity of the place, the garden …though it was raining every now and then, I had the chance to enjoy my coffee outside and taste the sweetness of the freshly pick papaya every morning, it was heaven to my palate. Thanks Katrina!

This is our family photo on rainy days inside the Maiden’s secret haven. I love it!

I’m looking forward to another family holiday, another adventure.

    Will I use another airbnb?

    Hmmm… maybe yes..maybe no!

The first time you fall in love?

    allergy?

Β but for you it is love..

the trembling knees and the sweating of hands..

    arthritis?

but for you it is love..

    floating in the air

    hypoglycemia?

but for you it is love..

and slowly the symptoms started to disappear

    alzheimer?

Dhi Ain Village – the marble village of al Baha KSA (part 1)

    albahaeid-1-43

Dhi Ain Village (thi ain ancient village ) it is also known as Aqaba al-Baha. The 400 year old village was not easy to locate, we have to pass through 25 tunnels at 8,200 ft above sea level to get into al- baha. On top of that, due to numerous spellings we can’t google the place correctly. We have to go to Golden Tulip Hotel to asked for the direction. The scenery along the road was spectacular. There were few view deck along the area where you can stop and take pictures.

    albahaeid-1-39
built 400 years ago on a small marble mountain

Before reaching this place, we have seen ruins of abandoned stones and slate towers along the way. It’s amazing to see how the stones were arranged.

We left our hotel early morning and we can’t just pass through without taking pictures. It was all foggy ,breezy but not so cold at this time.

It’s a long winding road but its worth seeing the place specially we have a week Eid holiday. Though we were not able to see forest garden, we have seen few green bushes, banana ,olive, flowers along the area.

    Creativity at its best!

  • Thought provoking… Honolulu Fish Auction

At first when I heard from my son, Chef Kevin, he wanted to see the Fish Auction in Honolulu, I was bewildered! There’s a lot of scenic tours around the island why at the Pier 38?

    2016-07-02 at 05-33-13 (1)

    4 Am mom!

What? Why? Are we going on fishing? Are we selling fish? Why 4 am?

Do we have to take part in auction?

    What about the smell?

Well, this is his holiday gift so I just went along with the idea. We woke up at 4:30 and was at Pier 38 5:30 am, the auctions starts at 6 am. Thought provoking? Yes! Β you can say that again, a lot of things in my mind πŸ™‚ Β Anyhow , as I see the excitement on his eyes , I begun to feel excited too!

    IMG_6625
    nice smile!

IMG_6618To my surprise, the place is clean and I hardly smell the fishes. Before going in, we passed through a small board with water ( i’m assuming it is mixed with disinfectant) . Β I noticed a small portion of the fish tail is cut off and I learned later that it was done to show the color of the meat i.e.: bright red is fresh, streaks of white indicates high fat content and if brown, oxygenation has taken place. Would you still buy it? The guide said, are you going to eat it raw? or are you going to cook it? It depends πŸ™‚

    IMG_6552
a small piece of meat is cut off from the tail to show the freshness
    IMG_6613
This is me just goofing around..

    IMG_6601

Why are we wearing headset? Well, with all the people around trying to bid, it would be hard for us to listen to the guide. The auction is done like in the wall street trade but instead of suits, hand gestures and screaming, auctioneers are in jackets and boots, quickly moves in rows of fish and speaks in steady fast manner.

    IMG_6565

    IMG_6566

The most common is yellow fin tuna and big eye tuna, but they also have opa – moon fish

    IMG_6574

    IMG_6560

    IMG_6572

Well, I’m happy that I went along with chef Kevin’s idea. I enjoyed the tour as well. And here are the few things I learned:

-Tuna contains the mineral selenium (selenoneine) which is antioxidant and together binds with the mercury which lowers the risk of mercury-related problem. When we eat tuna we likely get the same antioxidant protection.

-Interesting to note, and tricky too :0 Tuna has a higher mercury content than other fishes so it was advise pregnant women should avoid eating it, but other researches shows when pregnant women eats more tuna, the kids are more smarter.

-Hawaiian name for big-eye tuna- (Ahi) yellow fin, blue fin (maguro)

After the tour, we had breakfast at Nico’s Pier 38Β IMG_6632

I enjoyed the tour as well πŸ™‚ Β I had a better idea of what is going on in an auction like this. I Β also have a better appreciation of the fishermen and the chefs who have gone through fish searching , so we can savour the menu on the table.

    Way to go!

    Cheers,

    Jamilamimi

After spending sixteen (16) years in Jeddah, KSA,three (3) years in Lucern, Brig, Le Bouveret,Switzerland, six(6) months in Dubai, UAE and one (1) year in LA, California USA, my nomadic Chef Kevin will try to woo Asia. While his brother Edge, the photographer will have another year in USA.

And the adventures continues..keep on dreaming..keep reaching your goal and soon it will be a reality.

Now, you have graduated both and ready to venture at your own, I thought I could have relax Β πŸ™‚ Β  but no! It’s another chapter, another adventure, another excitement and more prayers.

Thank you Lord for your guidance.

Thank you for the precious gift of having two sons

Thank you for the gift of strength and Β wisdom

My food adventures with Chef Kevin and my photographer Edge (though all photos here are mine😊) continues on. The beauty of being with them is …I got to try different menu and also learn new things, forget about putting on additional weight, it’s holiday time!

Today lunch choice: Japanese shabu shabu

I would say, so far this is the best hot pot I have tried in LA. The soup base even though it is spicy, i can still savour its tastes, so yummy!

well, is it obvious that I love shrimps😍

Chef Kevin says: put noodles at the last part!

    why?

Because after putting all the meat, vegetables and sea food, the broth or soup takes in all the flavor and of course noodles will absorb all the flavors too!

love it! and I don’t mind to come back again in this restaurant. The price is also reasonable for ” eat all you can” hot pot.

Ladies, what are you waiting for? try now!

    cheers,

    jamilamimi
