Gothic for a cause

” Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it”

Confucius

Yesterday was an afternoon well spent. I was invited to a photo shoot for a cause. It was a camaraderie fundraising event for a family who needed some help for hospitalization. I am a hobbyist in photography mostly interesting places when I am on a trip , I like landscape and flowers as my subjects. Though, I usually do family portraits for friends, this was my first time to shoot a gothic portraiture. As an amateur I was pretty excited. I really don’t know what to expect, I was asking for a protocol so I would know what will be my limitations, will there be some tips and advice on how to take portrait with gothic theme? Will the professional guide the amateur? hahaha poor me, don’t really know what to do ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyhow, I came early and was surprised, models were already getting ready, lights were set up and registration already started. The person ย in charged for registration was giving another paper for models to sign on…Me? nope I’m here to shoot! Wow ๐Ÿ™‚ shoot? maybe just a spectator or taking behind the scenes photos. Of course! I tried my best to capture the moment ๐Ÿ™‚

and here some of my shots… models: Alda ,Janet,Angie,Alyana and Carmie

NYIP : What the F in Photography !

“Photography is not a sport. It has no rules. Everything must be dared and tried!”

-Bill Brandt

1904-1983

I was doing right (that’s what I thought) my photos are alright, I like it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Focus! your out of focus mom!

huh? I thought I was making the background blurred , it looks great! my friends like it (well, what are friends for?) support each other! I guess ๐Ÿ™‚

So here I am, continuing with my photography studies, Oh! I asked myself, why did I took this on-line course? It seemed it’s not my forte, I love taking photos (automatically) without thinking what aperture I will use, what ISO and What the F? anyway!

NYIP – there’s no such thing as ” good enough”. ย I always thought when I look at the viewfinder , I got a good focus, good enough to upload in Facebook ๐Ÿ™‚ get as many “like” as you can imagine lol!

Amateurs are accustomed to “good enough” focusing. Pros will settle for only perfect focusing (talking about my perfectionist son, Edge).

So what is the F again?

F-stop (aperture) the lens opening inside the photographic lens and it is measured by F-stops where N =F/D alright, don’t ask me, I took Dentistry because I can’t concentrate a lot when there are numbers ๐Ÿ™‚ joke!

simply put : the greater the opening (aperture) more light comes in

which only complicate : the greater the aperture the smaller the F-stop, the shallower the depth of field

the smaller the aperture the higher the F-stop, the greater the depth of field

2013-10-14 at 13-20-07

ISO 200 85mm F1.4

I like the model, I like the picture, it seemed focus but not so.. this could have been better If I focused on her eyes to make it more sharper, the background was blurred indicating a shallow depth of field.

Well, there’s always room for improvement and another photo shoot:-)

Unit one done! passed the exam..on to the 2nd Unit

Cheers!

Eye of the Photographer

I love Dentistry, but working 48 hours a week sometimes drained my energy out! I started my cheesecake challenge as a stress reliever and through out the challenge of baking, I discovered I love taking photos of the cheesecake more than baking it ๐Ÿ™‚ and my fascination goes on to higher scale.

So, here I am again..challenging oneself!

Who follows who? my sons are in Culinary and Photography course, hahaha don’t get me wrong, mine is only a hobby!

I have a full-time job and retirement is still far in my mind ๐Ÿ™‚ beautybeyondfifty still feeling young!

First lesson: EYE of the Photographer

1. A good photograph has a clear subject.

2. A good photograph focuses attention on the subject.

3. A good photograph simplifies.

I’ve been trained to diagnose, to listen and look for underlying cause so I can treat dental problem and maintained the oral health. I have learned the skills, the art and science of Dentistry and here is another lesson to dig in..to train my eye, to get the right composition of the subject O la la…good luck jamilamimi..hoping the fascination will continue ๐Ÿ™‚

2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 20,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 7 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Click here to see the complete report.

This year 2015, I’m starting a new Challenge for myself, Cheesecakes was a lot of fun but I must admit I enjoyed baking as much as photography, so this year, I am challenging myself to make a better photos and in order to achieve my goal, I enrolled in on line photography class. Yes! you heard it right, I’m taking a photography lesson on line and let’s see if I can make it. ๐Ÿ™‚
