    “Souk Juman” at KAEC

The weather was beautiful yesterday, our first weekend out of Jeddah and we visited “Souk Juman” at KAEC (King Abdullah Economic City) located approximately 100 kilometers north of Jeddah. It is a crossroads between East and West, on the cost of the Red sea and less than an hour by rail (we saw the train station along the way, though as of this writing, it is not operational yet) from Mecca, Medina and Jeddah.

Souk Juman was held Feb.16-17 at Juman Park at Bay La Sun District. We got the ticket through on-line … 75 Sr per adult and 20 SR per child.

It’s a beautiful lush green environment, with a large waterfront amphitheater ovelooking the blue water of the Bay La sun canal.

There was a mixture of small stall selling homemade goods, jewelry, abaya, fruits, popcorn and cotton candy and a lot more. The atmosphere was festive and the cool breeze wind added more vibrance to the event.

There were also cooking, fashion and art competition among the kids and young at heart

    🙂

After moving around the Juman park, we went to the beachfront dining, It was packed with people but we managed to get a table for us. There was a lot of restaurant to choose from and we settled for a burger and nachos in Bert’s coffee shop.

Ladies, it was an enjoyable bonding and hoping next year the Karting tract will be operational during the festival.  🙂

    Cheers,

    Cookie Challenge #2

    Blueberry Oatmeal cookies – gluten-free

Have you been to Lulu supermarket in Jeddah? It’s a huge supermarket with a variety of products local and imported from all over the world. What I like most is the fruits and vegetables section. The prices are reasonable, where can you get a pack of blueberries for 6 SR? Only here in Lulu supermarket!

    2017blueberry

Yes! My next healthy ingredient for my cookie diet challenge is blueberry.

    Why blueberry?

Researched shows blueberry is a good source of vitamin C which is good for our immune system. It is also  rich source of anti oxidant and contain the health promoting phytochemical, anthocyanin. But of course, eating organic fresh is better than adding it in cookies. Take note ladies, my challenge is to make cookies more healthier and enjoy the process. If you would like to read more about blueberries, try this site:http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=8

    Cookie Challenge # 1

    Carrot oatmeal cookie – gluten-free

    2017-02-03-at-21-07-37

I love carrot cake so the first thing that came to my mind when I started this challenge is to make carrot cake cookie. I used gluten-free flour and gluten-free granola oats and freshly grated carrots.

    img_9075

I like to imagine that I am eating a healthy cookie that won’t jeopardize my diet!

hello what diet?  ask my friend who said:

My hobby is eating and complaint about my weight…

Kidding aside, I would like to think having one or two cookie in between meals with carrots and oatmeal is not bad, its yummy and my belly is happy hahaha ladies ..excuses!

    2017-02-03-at-21-06-34

One of the secrets for baking healthier cookies is to replace the all- purpose flour with oats and a bit extra of gluten-free baking flour. From my researched , it mentioned adding more fibers to your cookies makes it more healthy. You can use whole wheat flour or rolled oats flour. This is my first try 🙂  so I got my excuses again! Though the result is not crunchy but soft , I think it’s because I ran out of honey and I used rose syrup instead.

    img_9072

aha! not so healthy one, well, I did not add white sugar because I know I should have used maple syrup or honey.

    img_9074

alright, so much of excuses…here’s to the first challenge!

    Ingredients:

1 cup granola oats with pumpkin seeds

    1/2 cup baking flour gluten-free

    1 cup grated carrots

1/2 cup maple syrup or honey (I used rose syrup) i cheated 🙂

    1/2 cup canola oil

    1 egg

    1 tsp vanilla

    1/2 tsp baking soda

    1 tbsp ground cinnamon

    Procedure:

Preheat oven to 350°F, Combine all dry ingredients into a medium bowl. Whisk the egg on a separate bowl , add the oil and honey, vanilla and mix with the dry ingredients.Add the grated carrots, mix well. Scoop the mixture and drop it and flatten it on top. bake for 10-15 min.

    Enjoy!

    Cheers,

    Jamilamimi

  • Cookie diet

made of almond meal and gluten free flour

Jamilamimi is starting a new project, remember my fifty home-baked cheesecake challenge? Home baked Cheesecake Challenge : 50th Flavour

Oh yeah, I gained so many kilo to date 🙂

Well, this time I would like to challenge myself to make fifty healthy cookies ?

    healthy?

Is there a cookie that is healthy?

Well, let me count my ways…

instead of using butter, maybe I can use coconut oil, olive oil or canola oil.

instead of using all-purpose flour, I can use oats,gluten-free,whole wheat flour and maybe add a few tablespoon of flax seeds.

I can also reduced the sodium content and add fresh berries and nuts.

This is the real challenge for me …to make the cookies less saturated and a bit healthier to digest.

Ladies eat cookies and watch how the extra kilo melt away 🙂 .just kidding!

    Cheers,

    Jamilamimi

  • Rossopomodoro – a review

It’s been awhile I haven’t eaten pizza, so when my friend came to visit , I researched for an Italian restaurant that serves authentic if not closer to pizzeria Neapolitan.

    img_9050

What is Neapolitan pizza anyway? well, it’s simply made of tomato and mozzarella cheese, the dough is made of wheat flour, kneaded by hand without the help of rolling-pin, bake in stone oven with an oak-wood fire. As the waiter said, it’s kind of a “slap pizza”

    img_9041

Rossopomodoro  is a pizzeria and Italian restaurant found in Ascott centre at Sari st. besides the stars Avenue. Rosso means “red” and pomodoro means “tomato”.

It was a breezy cool night and a lot of people choose to dine outside. But we decided to stay inside and be curious of what this restaurant has to offer. We can see the kitchen which is surrounded by glass window and on one side big gold tiled wood fired oven where the pizza is made.

The price is on the mid range. the service is quick too!

    img_9042

Here’s our order and everything was super delicious. well, not the Tiramisu, it’s not really something that I would say, different and authentic!.

    img_9058The drinks were also superb!

  • Wagamama – a review

    #late post

    Part I

Wagamama in Jeddah had open recently and my friends and I were there during the soft opening. It is located just at the back of our clinic in Tarik Nadat St, Ar Rawdah dist.near thalia walkway.

    img_7756

I tried Wagamama in Heathrow and it was a good experience, more of oriental noodles and I love the fresh vegetables. If you would like to know more, click the link below. https://www.wagamama.sa/en/about-us

Anyhow, so we went to the soft opening, as excited as we wanted to try, we found the prices too high and the food were not really so exciting , the taste was bland. We asked, where the noodles? they said, it’s still coming from London. We gave it a thumbs down with some reservation as we said, it’s a “soft opening”. They don’t have a proper menu list and most of the dishes are not available yet.

    img_7763img_7762img_7761

We ended eating at Yemeni restaurant to filled up our frustration. It’s a favourite “comfort food” for the group 🙂

    Part II

After two weeks, my brothers and I tried Wagamama again, same place but it’s more frustrating on me because I was expecting a bit more, hence this is my second time. Though the starter was good (chilli squid),the noodles was not even cooked well. The taste a bit improved but still it doesn’t compared to what I had in other Wagamama branch.

Don’t be fool by the photos, the taste is not really that good!

The noodles are not cooked well, sticking in one piece and we did complained, and it was removed from our bill.

    img_7959

    img_7961

I know, I am complaining a lot about this place, but someday I will try again for the third time ( I’m not rolling my eyes up) seriously I want to give this place a chance because my first impression in London was satisfactory, hoping Jeddah branch will be the same.

Ladies, I may not be lucky at first maybe on the third I will be 🙂

    Cheers,

    Jamilamimi

  • 2017

tulip-83aIt’s been quite awhile I haven’t published any blog, I thank my followers and readers who patiently waited and kept sending me letters to ask how am I doing. Thank you!

The previous months after my birthday was indeed busy tortuous months. I could not bring an inspiration to write, I froze!

I know this too will pass and everything will be back to normal.Let us count the blessing we received for the past years and we move forward to year 2017 and the years to come.

Let us not forget the people who were not able to celebrate new year with a bang! Let us not forget the years we received blessings. Let us not forget we are human who makes mistakes and uttered some words that may hurt others but really doesn’t mean it.Let us not forget the material possessions we have are only a fraction of what we should be wishing this year.

Let us remember the love and respect we have given and received, to continue to work on the matter that is important and not the superficial things we acquire and require to get the happiness that we think will suffice our life.

Let us pray for kindness, peace and love to everyone.

2017 beginning is tough but I am ready for you!

    #thank you Lord.

    cheers,

    Jamilamimi

  • Age 57 and counting…bucket list?

new-doc-34_1At age 57 and beyond… Do I still have a bucket list?   You bet!

I have plenty of it! A bucket of fats… extra kilo 🙂  a bucket of wrinkles and bulge…kidding aside:-) yeah of course, I still have things I haven’t done and would love to try to… things that I have done and would like to do it all over again.

I guess all I have done since I got married, have children and got separated …is a bucket list of how to survive for all of them, support them in any way I can, caring and loving them more than myself.

Well, I guess it’s about time to remember my bucket list for myself before I even forgot I have a list too!

Love  Oh yeah! that’s the top on my list. I have given so much that I forgot how it is being in love. Sure, my sons will always be there but I know sooner or later they will also have their own family, their own love .I would like to find someone who would inspire me to get out of the bed with a smile on my lips, start the day right and energized.I would like to have someone who can make me laugh and not cry.I like to find someone who appreciates my value in his life, who would take an extra minute to listen to my boring stories and to take me to a movie (no matter how boring it is) to a dance (even though he doesn’t know how) in short, I would like to find someone who love the way I do.Call me crazy ! (with my eyes rolling up high) And one day ,I would also  like to hold his hand, look into his eyes and take our vow, no promises of extravagance just a simple life of togetherness and love, in sickness or in health, Alzheimer or  not, till the sun rises and set…wow! I am really into this 🙂

    mi2016alright let’s move on…

Travel If I have a chance I would like to see “The great pyramid of Giza” the only one surviving from the seven wonder of the Ancient world. Next is to visit the new seven wonders of the modern world.I had the chance to visit Petra in Jordan, so I have five left. The great wall of china, the colosseum of Rome ,Chitchen Itza of Mexico,Macchu Picchu of Peru,Taj Mahal of India and the Christ Redeemer of Brazil. And I also would like to go back to Paris and more 🙂 you know if you’re putting something on the bucket list, make it grand! at least there are choices and it doesn’t hurt if u can travel to one or two. It’s a blessing!

Learn an instrument I enjoyed listening to music, watch live orchestra or musical concert and it is my dream to learn how to play piano or violin. I know someday I gonna do it.

Self publish a book I would like to publish my own memo, though I am sharing my experiences on my blog, there are a lot more to explore like how and why I am still here in Saudi Arabia? or then and now of living in Saudi Arabia or who knows? my own love story (the rise and fall) really? let’s see 🙂

Learn how to swim Yeah! I only knew how to float but not to really swim. I love to go to the beach , who doesn’t? but can’t really explore because I am scared to drown. I also want to learn how to snorkel and even scuba diving. wow! I see your eyebrow is up!

Learn how to drive everyone knew, women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, so there’s always from the back of my mind, I wish I can drive so I can go to places without being at the mercy of unruly drivers.

There are more things I would love to explore but I’ll reserve it when I am sixty 🙂

Ladies, I think if you feel like doing something different or learn new things, this is NOW, children are already grown up, chasing their own dream…don’t just sit there because you feel old, be a part of the now generation, be young in mind and spirit.Continue to be an inspiration,be active and you will find a new breath of life.

So, what am I doing on my birthday? snooze! Z Z Z Z Z Z  two thumbs up!

next blog pls! the bday dinner 🙂

    Cheers,

    jamilamimi
