Dhi Ain Village – the marble village of al Baha KSA (part 1)

Dhi Ain Village (thi ain ancient village ) it is also known as Aqaba al-Baha. The 400 year old village was not easy to locate, we have to pass through 25 tunnels at 8,200 ft above sea level to get into al- baha. On top of that, due to numerous spellings we can’t google the place correctly. We have to go to Golden Tulip Hotel to asked for the direction. The scenery along the road was spectacular. There were few view deck along the area where you can stop and take pictures.

Before reaching this place, we have seen ruins of abandoned stones and slate towers along the way. It’s amazing to see how the stones were arranged.

We left our hotel early morning and we can’t just pass through without taking pictures. It was all foggy ,breezy but not so cold at this time.

It’s a long winding road but its worth seeing the place specially we have a week Eid holiday. Though we were not able to see forest garden, we have seen few green bushes, banana ,olive, flowers along the area.

    Creativity at its best!

  • Serenata “Opus 10” one word – Spectacular!

    2015-02-28 at 23-44-10

Challenging..blessed..grateful.. were the words to described the Serenata journey to 10th year according to Ms. Charo Hipos the chairperson and executive producer of Opus 10.

    2015-02-28 at 23-43-35

SERENATA is a non- stock,non-profit, cause oriented organisation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia founded in 2005 through the pioneering efforts of Ms. Sylvia de los Santos, Ms. Desil Manapat and Mr. Louis Bautista. Serenata hold annual benefit concert and to date, they have produced 29 scholars and 7 college graduates.

    2015-03-01 at 00-31-13

I have attended seven of their concerts and I was so eager to attend the eight concert but it didn’t coincide with my tight schedule and I was not lucky to find a ticket on the ninth and so when Ms. Lolit Cua invited me, I was jumping with joy (literally 🙂 ) and immediately blocked my schedule , for once, let me attend please!

    2015-02-28 at 22-43-31

And to echo the words of Ms. Charo, my attendance was also “Challenging” I have to make sure my patient’s schedule were all specially booked well in advance though dental treatment will always be challenging to finished on time 🙂 nevertheless, I did it! Unfortunately another mishap happened, my bank card was retained at the ATM machine and to talk to customer service was a menace at times (rolling my eyes..at all time!..this is KSA) Anyhow, I went home and hurriedly changed my clothes ,took a taxi and alas! I reached the alma mater of my chef Kevin, AISJ (American International School of Jeddah, hosted the event for the eight times). As I was waiting for my change, the blue guard came and reprimanded the taxi driver not to park  (taxi cab was on the side before the gate entrance) , waving his hand on me to get into the car and let the taxi move OMG! don’t bark! only dogs do that!

Anyhow, after checking my ID and ticket, the receptions was like attending the  Oscars! ,not that I attended it 🙂 but I like the photo shoot, the little poses hahaha. I was ushered to a special seat and I felt so “blessed” that actually I am in the “Opus 10″ concert. I will always be” grateful” to Ms. Lolit for the invitation. 🙂

Yes! SERENATA..I have only one word to describe the concert..SPECTACULAR!

And last but not the least, the special participation of Ms. Precy Ann Cua was stunning! not to mention she had undergone Oral Surgery twice before the concert 🙂  This soft-spoken lady holds a BS degree in Music (major in voice, minor in piano) at St. Scholastica’s College in Manila, Philippines. Bravo! (hats off)

    2015-03-01 at 00-23-50

And while I was enjoying the show, suddenly I can’t remember If I unplug my flat iron 😦 I was in a hurry so I was not sure and later it became so obvious that I didn’t..OMG! concert or fire? yeah you’re right, I’m on fire so I left the concert without seeing the String Orchestra. Grrrrr.

Beautybeyondfifty was so frustrated. ahh blame it to the age! hahaha

To the members and participants, parents, siblings, committees ,sponsors and guest a big THANK YOU and Congratulations!

    2015-02-27 at 21-34-50 (1)

Friday the 13th when we started talking about going on road trip to see the 2015 Guinness World records – The Largest Carpet of Flowers in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. The Flower festival was opened to the public Feb. 9 ,2015. A week after ,there was no available car to take us all and surprise! the Festival got extended to March 1 , lucky us 🙂 My friend got his new car and off we went ..336 Km from Jeddah to Yanbu – 3 hrs and 12 minutes. And another lucky day for us, we were under the care of a very hospitable friends of friends 🙂 we arrived in Yanbu just in time to have lunch.

    2015-02-27 at 19-14-41

Yanbu al Bahr “spring by the sea” is simply called Yanbu, a very clean and well organised road of Al Madinah western province of Saudi Arabia. After lunch, we went around china harbour (I don’t have an idea about the name) why not yanbu harbour?

DSC_7036 DSC_7032The 9th Flower Festival in Yanbu started Feb 9 – 24 but extended until  March 1.  I am not sure what time it opens regular days but every Friday it opens at 4pm, there’s no entrance fee, it is open for the public. Again, there was no brochure and I noticed there was no sign or card names to identify what kind of flowers was planted. However, It is fascinating to note, this is a dessert and to grow flowers like that is really amazing!

  • Old Jeddah and Old Me :-)

    DSC_5876

I always look forward for a day rest on weekend but when my friend says we have to go somewhere..GO! hahaha that’s me! My foot has an addiction to roam around anywhere! DSC_5874

As far as I know this is the second day of “Old Jeddah Festival” Jan.16,2015. Our car was parked about one kilometre away from the site.Downtown Jeddah (Balad) is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The festival is open for 10 days and its free entrance for everyone. The buildings were lit with different colors of light, there were guards, ushers and usherettes to guide which way to go.One thing missing were leaflets for guest like us, who can’t understand arabic, at least for us to know whose house, what stories behind the building,.. for us to better appreciate the history and reconnect the past to the present.

Mostly of the building windows are adorned with wooden lattices. The place were full with local and expatriate people. It was hard for me to take a good shot, I was afraid to lose my valuables and be left by my friends. The hustle and bustle of the festival was overwhelming.

It was a Funfair evening which ended up into a stressful night for me. To make the story short, I sprained my foot (mid section) as I was moving the chair back to stand up, I guess I was not paying attention or it’s me.. my old “ME” so much of laughter and accidents do happen at times 😦 I am lucky my friends were all boys scout and girls scout. The first aid treatment was superb! I was able to walk and work the following morning 🙂

    Thank you my friends!

  • Taif through the eyes of Nanay Aurea

    taif1

First road trip for 2015 ..the long winding road going to Taif, Saudi Arabia with an elevation of 1,879 m on the slopes of  Al sarawat mountains. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ta’if

    nanay aurea
    nanay aurea

This is also  Nanay Aurea first road trip outside Jeddah. Our plan was just to have an early sunrise breakfast to our favourite “sand dune” but decided to go further and have lunch At Al Shifa mountain.

A breezy morning to unwind, as we ascended to the mountain, Nanay aurea was quiet for some time, wondering whether the road has an end. At times, she asked questions like..why there are so many tires on the road? In the Philippines old car tires can be reuse and recycle to a flower pot holder, a swing ,chairs and table etc.She was murmuring “marami nang manginginabang sa atin nito” a lot of people will earn from these old tires. In unity, we all nodded our heads.

Once we passed by police check point, she readily took out her passport and got worried that her visa is only in Jeddah 🙂 to our amusement we told her, her deportation back home is imminent 🙂 hehehe of course not!

Her amazement of how the road was constructed  echoed on how  hard it is for her to relate the story to her friends back home. 🙂 me too Nanay Aurea ..I share your sentiments 🙂 I took a lot of pictures and I can’t decide which one to upload. Alas! I choose candid street photos! Alright friends..don’t roll your eyes on me!

Oh! before I forget, what was the comment of Nanay Aurea on grilled chicken?
