Age 59: LIPS… understanding aging process for beauties beyond fifty(aka older women)

Do you notice anything about your smile?

Does your teeth shows when you smile?

Is your lips getting thinner?

Come on! Look at the mirror and examine your lips, was it the same when you were in your early twenties?

NOPE!

Well, When I was a teenager ,way back.. ๐Ÿ™‚ hahaha make a calculation and you will know what year..I used to think my lips were big and thick! I am conscious about my teeth as well, it’s protruded and big. I did Orthodontic treatment, extracted four teeth to minimize protrusion of my lips and now that I am fifty and beyond, I find my lips thinner and my teeth doesn’t show as much as it was !

beauty smile
Feeling young at 52

Yep, as we grow older, our upper lips become thinner and lower lips increases a bit in thickness. The main reason why lips become thinner and loses its natural volume is because of collagen depletion.

Throughout aging, the face becomes flatter and the nose gains more prominence, resulting in a longer upper lip which explains why, sometimes in older women, upper front teeth cannot be seen during smiling.

Try to look at the mirror again and say the word “emma” without closing your lips, just in a relax position, can you see your two front teeth? Young people have at least 2mm of it showing but for adult, sometimes, the two front teeth can not be seen at all. Well, it’s not only the problem of upper lips getting longer ,it is also the wear and tear of the teeth. Sometimes, the teeth itself got shorter because of attrition.

What treatment options do we have?

  • some women, choose to plump their upper lips, but at times they also over do it, resulting to a pronounced pout lips which at times too artificial (my opinion). Restylaneย is an example of filler used to increase volume and define the vermillion border of the lips.
  • lip implants – I would not even consider this treatment
  • fat injections – another treatment I will not consider

Well, for me, I would rather enhanced the shape of my teeth like doing veneer or laminates or bleaching and a good technique in lipstick application.

at age 59, i use different shades of lipstick and lip pencil

Lipstick application for older women:

TIPS:

  • apply moisturizer or in my case I use vaseline every night to prevent chapping and maintain the natural color of my lips
  • embrace pink shade of lipstick, though my mom at age 91, she still use red lipstick. I think pink for lighter skin and red for darker skin. I also think it should be at least two degrees darker than natural color of your lips.
  • line your lips with pencil and accentuate the cuspid’s bow with a darker colorlips2
  • finish with light gloss to have more youthful look ๐Ÿ™‚

Is there any difference between branded lipstick and lipstick I got from pharmacy?

My opinion?

NONE!

Age 59: Posing tips for beauties beyond fifty (aka: older women)

” beauty has so many forms. and I think the most beautiful thing is confidence and loving yourself”

img_7386

How old are you?

I was asked many times and every time there’s oh..?? you’re kidding!

Even my millennial patients would rush and look at my license certificate on the wall and read my birth year๐Ÿ˜Š

1959!

yes! There’s no secret and I think I look natural at my age. Hmmm..what natural? for myself? or what society dictates? depends on my mood , I guess ๐Ÿ™‚

You see, when you don’t exert effort on how to look young, it mirrors on your photo.

img_7385

IMG_8469

You don’t have to look like when you’re on your 30’s! You just have to look like a better version of it when you’re fifty and beyond๐Ÿ˜Š

Example?

Eye bags

Well, as we grow older, our eye bags got deeper, you don’t need a filler or bleph , just wear you’re eyeglasses and pronto! eye bag is gone!

Eyebrows

it’s a trial and error how to get the best eyebrow that really looks natural on your age. It took me awhile to master how I want it to be. I think having tattoo will look you more older.

and

find your angle look๐Ÿ˜Š when someone wants to take your photo.

practice.. practice..

look at the mirror which is your best side.. right? or left?and practice smiling. It really makes a difference. You can also turn your shoulder at 45 degrees angle but don’t tilt your head, instead bring your ears to the front to minimize double chin . Position the tip of your tongue at the back of your teeth and SMILE!

Ladies, at our age, I think the best is to smile confidently and I am hundred percent sure , you will look younger.

Here are some sample of ladies who smile beautifully without editing or using filter.

Remember, we all have our time of beauty at a different stages of life so embrace it whether you are fifty or beyond.

Keep smiling ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers!

Gothic for a cause

July 21, 2018

” Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it”

Confucius

Yesterday was an afternoon well spent. I was invited to a photo shoot for a cause. It was a camaraderie fundraising event for a family who needed some help for hospitalization. I am a hobbyist in photography mostly interesting places when I am on a trip , I like landscape and flowers as my subjects. Though, I usually do family portraits for friends, this was my first time to shoot a gothic portraiture. As an amateur I was pretty excited. I really don’t know what to expect, I was asking for a protocol so I would know what will be my limitations, will there be some tips and advice on how to take portrait with gothic theme? Will the professional guide the amateur? hahaha poor me, don’t really know what to do ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyhow, I came early and was surprised, models were already getting ready, lights were set up and registration already started. The person ย in charged for registration was giving another paper for models to sign on…Me? nope I’m here to shoot! Wow ๐Ÿ™‚ shoot? maybe just a spectator or taking behind the scenes photos. Of course! I tried my best to capture the moment ๐Ÿ™‚

and here some of my shots… models: Alda ,Janet,Angie,Alyana and Carmie

Age 57: Mom shaming

Have you read recently the blog of Maggie Wilson about”mom shaming?” She is on point! Who are you to judge a mom according to what she wears? Can you tell a good mom from just looking at her? SHAME ON YOU!

momyelow
From jumper to skirt : If I wear the skirt with my abs showing, will I be less as a mom? If I wear it as a jumper, will I be like trying hard?

I know there are appropriate dresses or attire in a particular occasions. Are there appropriate dresses on a particular age group? Like when you are already a “mom” you can’t wear shorts short? When you are in your fifties or beyond you can’t wear this and that? Who said what, who and why?

Are you dressing to please other people? Or are you dressing to please yourself?

Everyone has different style, different reasons ,different moods and its personal choice not yours to decide!

mi
If you wear jeans like teens, does it makes me a bad or good mom? Does everyone knew what I have been through? Does everyone knew that I have raised two young professionals son who are well-respected in their own chosen field?

Do you know what mom went through in order to raised her children? Is she going to be judge by one occasion? by one dress?

momorange
If I post my daily beauty routines, will I be judge like I don’t take care of my children?

What is mom shaming? to my knowledge, mom shaming is like a disease that is contagious and communicable at the same time! a mom having negative feedback to another mom who doesn’t have the same belief as hers.

Seriously, are you perfect?

I believe mom who hurt other mom has some issues to herself. She throws her negative thoughts to other mom because she is envious of what other mom has accomplished. She is envious because she can’t do what other mom can do. Or simply, She loves to gossip because she has all the time, she is free for dilly dallying and bashed other moms.

Ladies, why don’t we just support each other. Let us inspires each other, as what Maggie put it, I hope this post lights a spark.

Age 57: DIY – Eyebrow tinting

Warning: This is an experiment…If you are not adventurous please don’t make this at home!

If you are fifty and beyond continue reading ๐Ÿ™‚

Is your eyebrow getting thinner? graying? If the answer is yes? then this is the sign of aging! ouch! If your answer is no? hmm probably you are in denial? or you are one of those women who can afford doing tattooing or microblading,do u know how much microblading? According to my research it will cost Php 35K down to Php 18K omg! or maybe you are just lucky to have those thick eyebrows when you were younger that when you hit fifty, all you have to do is add a bit of eyebrow powder and a little help of eyebrow pencil will do the trick! Remember, a fuller brow is always youthful! It accentuate your beautiful eyes!

IMG_0382

Well, I am one of those that embraces aging eyebrow and found an alternative solution that I saw on Facebook. Alright don’t give me that look! I know I shouldn’t believe everything posted hahaha. Anyway, I know I have no allergy and I know this is not for eyebrow tinting , will I die? nope! will I get burn? maybe! if I am not careful, will I get blind, yes! Precautions is the Key aside from being stupid ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh well, let’s get started. READ and proceed with caution

IMG_0376

This is for hair dye and not to be used for eyebrow. It will be too harsh on your skin around the eye. It only took me few seconds to leave the tint in my eyebrow. I was afraid it might burn my skin.

IMG_0375

The powder is mix with water, I made the consistency thicker than usual so it won’t flow to my eyes and the surrounding skin of my eyes. You can also put vaseline around the eye for better protection.

Brush and apply according to the shape of your eyebrow.

IMG_0384

Wait for few seconds and wash off with a wet cotton. careful not to drop any dye around.

IMG_0385

After effect. how long will it last? not sure but eyebrow hair has a very short life cycle so maybe within a month? I’m guessing ๐Ÿ™‚ I will let you know later.

IMG_0387 (1)

eyebrow

Excuse my make up free photos ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s good to be scared at times hahaha

IMG_0393

This photo was taken after two days, I think the tint will not stay for too long ๐Ÿ™‚

Ladies, no accidents happen or anything that I didn’t like, It’s all up to you if you want to try. Would I try it one more time? hmmm, may be no!

I’ll stick to eyebrow tint or eyebrow pencil.

IMG_0380

I tried this and works very well, It’s available in Alhamra pharmacy but a bit expensive though. Your choice!

Age 57: DIY – Hair mask on dyed hair

After doing my hair dyed and highlights, I decided to follow it up with homemade hair mask. Actually, I used to dye my hair with henna, yogurt and olive oil but as I did it frequently my hair turned to reddish-brown ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are the ingredients and I also wrote down the benefits of each.

IMG_0416

Coconut Oil – ( 1 tbsp) not all hair types benefit from coconut oil. Those with medium shiny hair will see good results but those with coarse or dry hair will do harm more than good. Coarse or dry hair will benefit more from argan oil. Coconut oil is the richest natural source of medium fatty acids with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. This help prevent protein loss in hair.

Olive Oil – (1 tbsp) ,acts as moisturizer, it contains anti inflammatory properties that promote scalp health and prevent dandruff. Also it contains high levels of mono unsaturated fatty acids and Vitamin E which is important for hair growth.

Honey – (1 tbsp) contains vitamins and mineral which is essential for hair health. Makes the hair glow. It strengthens the hair follicles, curbing hair fall.

Egg – (1 yolk) ย contains a large amount of vitamins A,D,and E. It promotes hair growth and prevent hair fall.

Yogurt – (2 tbsp) full of vitamins, a skin food for scalp. It has lactic acids, which is great for cleansing the scalp and cleaning away dead skin cells to help hair follicles grow.

Mix all ingredients:

I applied the hair mask on my dry hair . Comb and remove any tangled hair. Section hair and spread the mask evenly like coloring your hair.

Cover ( 30-40 min) with disposable cap and I used hair band to prevent the liquid dripping to my face. I didn’t use towel because it will absorb the liquid rather than goes to my hair and scalp. Rinse and shampoo as usual.

The result ๐Ÿ™‚ soft and silky hair and smell nice too!

hairmask

It seems the before photo is more shiny? Well, I guess it’s the lighting!

Ladies, try and you will know it yourself how is the result ๐Ÿ™‚

How often do I do hair mask?

I usually do it once every six weeks after I dye my hair but it is recommended to at least ย once a week.

Good Luck!

Cheers,

Jamilamimi

Age 57 : DIY hair dye highlights

Have you ever dye your hair at home? Oh YEAh! How about highlights? hmmm sounds not so familiar but I tried!

Now a days when the economy is down, going to salon once a month is considered a luxury. Imagine spending a minimum of Sr 150  a month for your hair and Sr 75 for your nails, wow! that’s Sr 225 and in a year it’s around Sr 2700 without counting the tips. I remember I had once, a bad shade, like  a blonde -orange – brown thing that I hated to look at myself in the mirror. a hell 6 weeks of waiting! huh! I swear I didn’t go back to that salon ever. it’s a DYE or DIE thing hahaha! So, I discovered I can control the shades if I do it myself, less stress on my wallet as well.

So, I tried to dye my hair every six weeks to cover the grey hair but at times I like to highlight a few strands so it mixes with the grey hair ๐Ÿ™‚ got it? the grey is now a lowlights ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_0365

Anyway, I just want to share how I did my highlights. I used Koleston (Wella), a combination of light brown mahogany (307/7) and matte medium blonde (307/2), for a perfect grey coverage. After a day, I used koleston highlights. It comes with a disposable caps, gloves and brush.

IMG_0327

I was at first scared to do it but I did it anyway. so here it is!

I used the plastic cap and a tool like the crochet needle to pull a thin stands of hair through the holes of the cap. I only choose few strands, then I applied the higlighter. I waited for around 15 minutes. I panicked looking at how my hair is turning into a very light shades. I immediately removed the cap and washed my hair.Check out also the strands of hair, It would have been better, if I pull the strands in a uniform thickness.

IMG_0322

After washing

IMG_0330

Towel dry

IMG_0336

Blow dry

IMG_0338IMG_0340

Ladies, what do you think?

Well, I think it’s not bad for the first timer like me, I think the next time I do it, I should be careful about the uniform thickness of the hair, more control on the amount of hair that pulled through the cap. And I should carefully follow the pattern of spaces on the cap so the result should be more evenly spaced.

Well, better luck next time ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers,

Jamilamimi

All in favour of spring say “hello”

At this time of the year, we all pretended we experienced spring in Jeddah ย ๐Ÿ™‚ ย  We’re supposed to see the flower festival in Yanbu but ended up north of Jeddah to eat grilled fish! Why? Because someone doesn’t want to drive that far!

Anyhow, instead of seeing flowers we see food (we ate SEAfood), it rhymes! HELLO!

And so my spring project started because of frustration. I started to learn how to do one stroke painting of a rose. Every time I tried, it didn’t look like a rose but certainly it looks like a flower to me and to my friends ๐Ÿ™‚

Valentine’s date.. for fifty and beyond

Happy Valentines everyone! Getting ready for your date? At age 56, I still think of having a date on Valentines day,..hmm, don’t roll your eyes on me! why not?

because…

… because… because..

See, I can’t think of a reason..hahaha

Well, have you been in love? Isn’t it the best feeling? Remember your first date? the impeccable rhythm of heart beat, the sweaty and cold hands, tantalising eyes and the never ending smile. Would it be nice, if you still feel the same way, long years after you get married?

yeah, you’re right! We became too familiar to each other that romance was like..hello and goodbye. The flowers became an ornament, an obligation to give because it’s Valentine’s day,my guess.. everyone will be posting their flowers and gifts on Facebook. you’re smiling..I know but it’s true..selfie with my Valentino/a..or selfie with my love or thank you love.Ahh..we just wished everyday is a Valentines day!

I think, that’s the missing part in a relationship..the “beyond” the giving, the attention and the courtship. We sometimes forget to set aside a day to celebrate and appreciate each other.Flowers and chocolate means nothing after a day, it will dry and we can eat a box of chocolates in few minutes.

What do you think beautybeyondfifty?

Well, I would love to celebrate this special day not necessarily on Feb. 14 , it can be before ,during or after. I would like to feel special, be appreciated. I don’t need flowers, though jewellery is an option (hahaha) ice cream over chocolate ๐Ÿ™‚ cold pizza over hamburger ๐Ÿ™‚ kidding aside..the best gift is TIME. yes, time to each other without being pushed or obligated to sit and talk. Perhaps a walk on the beach or park either sunrise or sunset, reminiscing the moments of togetherness, no calls, no work ..just “US”.

Puff! ..it’s only a wish! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, ladies, so much about having date, here are few Valentines posing tips for you!

1- lean forward, pull the chin forward to avoid a little bit of flabby fat under the chin.

2) Lift the arm to make it smaller;turn the shoulder, don’t face the camera head-on, this will create a bigger body.

And for those who are alone on Valentine’s Day, have a “me” time, go and pampered yourself, have a spa ,do your hair and nails or watch movie with ice cream and popcorn on the sides. Remember this day will also pass so enjoy it!

Cheers,

Jamilamimi

Age 56: bold and never mind :-)

golden girlSix years ago, the first photoshoot taken by my son landed a page in Star studio magazine, middle East edition. His first camera was Nikon D90. Last year I got him D7000 and we went on holiday together. This time, I told him I want something bold as bold as my decision to let go of things in life that gives me more stress than meaning.

Hmm at 56? bold ? hahaha I know, I am crazy to even think about it. I guess, it’s a part of growing up, rather a part of ageing process (middle age crisis?)..a make belief of things I would have done when I was at younger age. Well, if i don’t do it now, when i gonna do it?  on my senior years? That’s more than crazy ๐Ÿ™‚

I tried my luck in Santa Catalina Island. hahaha I was trying hard to posed sexy to no avail. If I can’t be sexy, how can I be bold? Well, how bold are we talking? in two piece bathing suit? No way! with bulging tummy and stretch marks ๐Ÿ™‚ bold? as in receding hairline? come’on that’s Bald! with an “a” hahaha.

Sometimes, there are things and events in life that we have to dealt with, we have to be courageous in making decision. I am fifty six and a single parent. Through the years, the journey was not easy but we continued to pursue our dream. I have to continue  encouraging and inspiring my sons and other people around me.

20151010_MOM_Photoshoot_3

After so many trials and errors, “relax mom” be yourself relax” I think I heard the word “relax” a thousand times! my son’s gave up on me. Finally he said, ok mom, just posed! and wallah! ๐Ÿ™‚

This picture is so me…bold and never mind ๐Ÿ™‚ seriously, I love this photo, a 56 years old woman, bold but classy, fierce but gentle, confident but profound, strict but funny.

I had so much fun during the shoot, both my sons and best friend were all goofing around..now, you know why I love being a mother and a dentist..modelling is not my forte. I can now go back to my dental clinic and say..”relax” to my patients ๐Ÿ™‚

Ladies, soon, I’ll be blogging about  beauty and fashion for beautybeyondfity!

stay tune!

Cheers!
