Friday the 13th, we had lunch at Texas Roadhouse in Thalia St. At 1:30 in the afternoon we were lucky to find a seat easy. The place was not so crowded like before, when it was newly opened. Upon entering, a smiling staff greeted us and we were guided to our table and a fresh-baked bread and butter was served immediately.
On the table, we found a small tin pail of peanuts, we were thinking hmmm. maybe the order will take long to be served, but no, we ordered steak and it was served just about 15 – 20 minutes.

I have a 72 years old male patient came in for consultation. His main concern..”spaces in front of the two front teeth”.
Him: Can you do something?
Me: Yes, I can.. but your teeth will look a bit wider and longer .
Him: would it look nice? will it improve my appearance?
Me: (looking at the other adjacent teeth, considering his oral hygiene) If only to close the space at the middle, maybe 20%! but lets start first in cleaning your teeth so I can get the real shade of the teeth. He agreed and I proceeded to remove the old composite filling and restored the teeth with direct composite veneer.(E.max direct).

His eyes beamed at the prospect of having 20% improvement. However, when I handed him the mirror, he was so pleased to look at his front teeth and proceeded to do the rest of his teeth. the rest is history, 🙂 It feels good to see him very happy.

Ladies, there’s always room for smile improvement ,no matter how old and whether you are man or woman 🙂
Today we opted not to cook lunch at home, instead we went to Tike (a little piece of meat) restaurant offering a taste of Istanbul.Oh, this is the time I am missing my sons most! We all love to explore different kind of cuisine.
The place is explicitly simple and yet so pleasing to the eyes.
grilled in charcoal
They offer barbecue by 1 meter and 2 meters, but we’re only three so we choose something good enough to fill our tummy.
served while waiting
feta bread
starters
The feta bread, although authentic and tasty, there was too much flour,it cling to my hands, so messy to handle. Hummus was just right, the most I love was the Kobe and grilled eggplant.
lemonade
Kunafah
green tea
Dondurma (Ice cream)
The grilled lamb was so tender and tasty. On dessert, I didn’t like the kunafa, the authentic Dondurma, turkish Ice cream, made of milk, sugar, salep and mastic gum,I find the texture so elastic and unique. in other words.. slimy and sweet 🙂 Oh well, It was nice to experience different taste and place. I hope one day I can travel to Istanbul and explore more 🙂

I was talking to a friend last night about children who was born outside the Philippines with a Filipino parents and speaks fluent English but have difficulty in speaking our very own language “Tagalog”. He was very passionate discussing his views that our conversation lasted for three hours OMG! nosebleed 🙂
English or Tagalog
Why do you think mostly of Filipino children born outside the Philippines speak English more than Tagalog?
Why do we have to speak English at home? Why do we encourage them to speak English only at home and not our own Language? Isn’t it that they are learning English at school? With their friends?… after all, they live outside Philippines and the common Language is English!
Who is a better teacher in English, the teacher whose native Language is English? or the Filipino parents whose native Language is Tagalog?..so why not speak Tagalog at home? Don’t you think you are rubbing them off of the opportunity to be bilingual?
Universal Language
First of all, English is a universal Language, it is a common knowledge ..if children speak English fluently, they will have an edge to those who does not..they have a better opportunity to find a job and a better interaction to people around the world.
Guilty as Charged
I can only speak for myself, I am guilty as charged of not speaking Tagalog at home with my sons while they were growing up, not because we lost our patriotism or I didn’t think they are smart enough to be bilingual but because my priority for them is to speak English fluently… yes they learned English at school but practicing at home will also help.Thank goodness, they didn’t acquire my Filipino English accent! 🙂 not that it is wrong to acquire it but my philosophy is.. you have to learn it the right way!
For awhile, I have to agree that it was a struggle for my eldest son not to speak Tagalog fluently, he lost his own identity in his own birth place because he does not speak Tagalog but eventually he did learned the Language. It would have been better if I taught him myself,.. moving on…it was a blessing that he speaks both English and Tagalog and a bit of Arabic as well.
Native Language
My youngest son, was born in Jeddah obviously his first Language is English, should I say his native language is Tagalog?
What is native Language? a Language a child learned first at home versus a language learned later in life.
but because he was born to a Filipino parents, he also learned how to speak tagalog though not as fluent as he speaks English. He only goes home to Philippines once a year just for a short holiday and not totally emerged to the Filipino culture. He was born in Jeddah but did not acquired the Saudi culture instead he was exposed to a multi cultural environment which gave him the benefits of interacting/learning different culture which help him to be a well- rounded person, of not being judgemental of others belief, attitude and behaviour. I am so proud to say he is now multi lingual (English,Tagalog,Arabic,German, French) and holds a very high interpersonal and social skills which will lead him to better path in a near future.
I say his native Language and primary Language is bilingual, English and Tagalog.
He might not be as proficient or as fluent in Tagalog but he can understand and able to appropriately response back.
My verdict?
There is nothing wrong in speaking English at home as long as the child knows he can also speak and understand Tagalog. It is not about patriotism because English is widely used as a form of communication in and out of the country. It helps to identify you as a Filipino but it doesn’t defines who you are!
What is wrong then?..if you imposed or encouraged not to speak Tagalog at all!

A week or two before his birthday, my father had suffered a mild stroke. I immediately decided to visit him. Before the announcement of an outbreak of MERS in Saudi Arabia, I already purchased an economy ticket going to Philippines via Etihad Airways.
MERS – Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is a viral respiratory illness caused by Coronavirus. It was first reported in 2012 in Saudi Arabia. It has been said that it likely came from animal sources like camel in Qatar and a bat in Saudi Arabia. It can be spread from one infected person to another person.
April 7, 2014 my flight From Jeddah to Abu Dhabi (Economy Class) and From Abu Dhabi to Manila (Business Class). For all OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) who have had experienced travelling in economy class, with different nationalities, different cultures, different hygiene practice…people who spit in public, sneeze /cough with gusto without covering their mouth without even considering they can spread the microbes (bacteria) to other people, this in particular is the menace of travelling.
To make the story short, I had the chance to experience travelling in business class when they offered me(via e-mail) to bid on the seat. It was a relief not to hassle, to wait in VIP lounge, a choice of complimentary delectable cuisine and even a free 15 minutes massage is available.

I apologize for the not so clear pictures but one thing I can surely say, the pictures in their websites and its functions are all true.

I had the same opportunity in coming back, scared of the MERS cases escalating in Saudi Arabia,I braced myself of some precautions because I was already feeling tired from travelling, my body were aching and just to have a comfortable flight will add some relaxation and will at least minimise my contacts to other passengers.

So after 12 hours and the plane had touchdown in Jeddah,Saudi Arabia, I noticed redness and warmness in my face and neck. I also have difficulty of swallowing due to sore throat. After I reached home, I immediately freshened and concluded that I might be having allergy so I took antihistamine tablet. I felt asleep for maybe an hour and when I woke up, the redness and swelling were more than usual, my eyes were puffy and half closed. I went to Emergency room(ER) , history was taken while taking the vital signs and Allerfin intramuscular injection STAT!
no diarrhoea, no difficulty of breathing and slightly elevated body temperature (37.9 C) definitely no MERS!!
I went home but after 12 hours I am back again in the ER, this time my whole body, extremities were all red, my face and neck were more swollen and red, so another injection was given, CBC (complete blood count) and antibiotic treatment was started right away.
After 4 days, the rashes and swelling started to disappear, my sore throat is less and I started to enjoy my meal. The CBC result is with in normal limits and I am back to work. 🙂
Thank you Lord, it wasn’t MERS!
Did the business class seat helps? I guess it minimises the contact to other passengers, did I mentioned Sarah Geronimo (popular Filipina singer) and her mother was a just a seat away? 🙂 If I was in the economy seat, with my low resistance to infection, it might have been worse.
Overall, the upgraded seat, the additional cost is worth having. Thank you Etihad Airways!
Whats inside your mouth, like an old amalgam filling can show discolouration. This is just a simple restoration that can change the shade of the teeth.

I also made a mini version of Kunafah Cheesecake. The same mixture , I only added more pistachio and walnuts. You can add any nuts. I’m getting curious to cheese cakes mania going on at Thalia St, Jeddah KSA. I’m wondering how many cheese cakes flavors Cheesecake Factory have?
Well, I am challenging myself to FIFTY flavours, I just don’t know when i gonna finish it? year 2016? If I will bake twice a month, in two years I will only have 48 flavours. I wonder how many kilo- my friends and I will gain in the span of 2 yrs and 2 months? hahaha I guess they will say goodbye in few months!
I have to find a recipe with less sugar or sugar-free, organic and maybe a diet cheesecake, anyone?
