  • Burnt or black pizza?

    IMG_1593

Have you tried black pizza? We did tried the brown bread but black pizza?

Well, last night I had the chance to tried it and I love it! My friend is moving back to Philippines for good, so for the last time we had an early dinner and we went to seventy seven burger and pizza restaurant at Al Rhawda dist.

At 77 SR we got to choose 2 appetizer, 1 pizza,1 dessert and 1 drink, not a bad idea, one order we can share it for two persons.

While waiting, we did some puzzles and wondered why black pizza? Hmmm this might be the latest craze, so I asked? Whats the ingredients? Why it is black?

    IMG_1592

    Activated charcoal!

hahaha ok lets ask google and see whats the benefits of charcoal?

It aids in digestion, reduced bloating and absorbs toxins in the body!

Ladies, oh la la we have excuse to eat pizza! πŸ™‚

Honestly, it’s delicious and because my mind is convinced this is healthy, I ate two slices πŸ™‚

    IMG_1595

  • Uber versus Careem: a review

    IMG_1535
    photo grabs at careem website

It’s been quiet long time I wanted to write a review but I was caught up with a busy schedule Β (rolling my eyes…anything new? )

If you missed my blog about uber and easy taxi please clickΒ Uber or Easy taxi in Jeddah, my choice?

Did you hear about the fiasco in Philippines about Uber and taxi? Β in which Uber was suspended for a month for a violation done while there was investigation going on. What? What about those taxis who over charged, drivers who are rude, was there any suspension done immediately? NONE!

We all knew how Uber made our life easy especially here in Jeddah. I hesitated for a while to use careem for a reason that I got used using Uber. But one day, there was a problem with my credit card and I can not book a Uber to work. Careem has choices of payment… either you pay cash, card or top your bank card any amount to save it in your wallet or you can even use qitaf points (from stc) to pay your ride.

And my first ride was awesome! Lexus.. yes! that was the model of the car πŸ™‚ and I was smiling from the inside because my ride was only 7SR (seven saudi riyals). If it was an ordinary taxi, I would still bargain to pay 10 riyals plus a filthy taxi and a smelly driver, though not in general, you can also find a clean taxi with a clean driver πŸ™‚

And so my ride with careem is super! I was able to experienced different car models and drivers who are not only polite but speaks english too. I feel rich having a chauffeur with Lexus, BMW, Saab etc. I was tempted to ask why they do careem when they have this big luxury cars but you know, this is Jeddah, ladies are not supposed to be friendly with strangers πŸ™‚

Today, I was lucky to ride with Mr Abduelah whose car is Hyundai Santa Fe, I forgot my eyeglass in his car and I contacted careem and it was an immediate communication to the Captain and wallah! my eyeglass was returned promptly! If this was an ordinary taxi, how could I ever retrieved my eyeglass?

So, I hope the Philippines gov’t should think about the system of UberΒ compared to the ordinary taxi. Taxi owners should compete fairly with the Uber, as what careem did to Uber. I think taxi in Philippines should have an improved and reliable system so the passengers are safe and not abused by an ordinary taxis.

Ladies, let me know your experience with Careem!

    Cheers,

    Jamilamimi (beautybeyondfifty)

  • Serenata – simplicity at its best!

Indeed! The Serenata annual benefit concert last Saturday ,March 18,2017 was so simple in terms of the costumes and frills but the performance was superb and its charitable cause made the concert great! This was their 12th season and for the record I only missed two of their concert πŸ™‚ Β addicted!

The ever supported husband of Ms. delos Santos – Mr. Teddy Delos Santos spotted playing Cello as assistant principal.

  • Age 57 and counting…bucket list?

new-doc-34_1At age 57 and beyond… Do I still have a bucket list? Β  You bet!

I have plenty of it! A bucket of fats… extra kilo πŸ™‚ Β a bucket of wrinkles and bulge…kidding aside:-) yeah of course, I still have things I haven’t done and would love to try to… things that I have done and would like to do it all over again.

I guess all I have done since I got married, have children and got separated …is a bucket list of how to survive for all of them, support them in any way I can, caring and loving them more than myself.

Well, I guess it’s about time to remember my bucket list for myself before I even forgot I have a list too!

LoveΒ  Oh yeah! that’s the top on my list. I have given so much that I forgot how it is being in love. Sure, my sons will always be there but I know sooner or later they will also have their own family, their own love .I would like to find someone who would inspire me to get out of the bed with a smile on my lips, start the day right and energized.I would like to have someone who can make me laugh and not cry.I like to find someone who appreciates my value in his life, who would take an extra minute to listen to my boring stories and to take me to a movie (no matter how boring it is) to a dance (even though he doesn’t know how) in short, I would like to find someone who love the way I do.Call me crazy ! (with my eyes rolling up high) And one day ,I would also Β like to hold his hand, look into his eyes and take our vow, no promises of extravagance just a simple life of togetherness and love, in sickness or in health, Alzheimer or Β not, till the sun rises and set…wow! I am really into this πŸ™‚

    mi2016alright let’s move on…

TravelΒ If I have a chance I would like to see “The great pyramid of Giza” the only one surviving from the seven wonder of the Ancient world. Next is to visit the new seven wonders of the modern world.I had the chance to visit Petra in Jordan, so I have five left. The great wall of china, the colosseum of Rome ,Chitchen Itza of Mexico,Macchu Picchu of Peru,Taj Mahal of India and the Christ Redeemer of Brazil. And I also would like to go back to Paris and more πŸ™‚ you know if you’re putting something on the bucket list, make it grand! at least there are choices and it doesn’t hurt if u can travel to one or two. It’s a blessing!

Learn an instrumentΒ I enjoyed listening to music, watch live orchestra or musical concert and it is my dream to learn how to play piano or violin. I know someday I gonna do it.

Self publish a bookΒ I would like to publish my own memo, though I am sharing my experiences on my blog, there are a lot more to explore like how and why I am still here in Saudi Arabia? or then and now of living in Saudi Arabia or who knows? my own love story (the rise and fall) really? let’s see πŸ™‚

Learn how to swimΒ Yeah! I only knew how to float but not to really swim. I love to go to the beach , who doesn’t? but can’t really explore because I am scared to drown. I also want to learn how to snorkel and even scuba diving. wow! I see your eyebrow is up!

Learn how to driveΒ everyone knew, women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, so there’s always from the back of my mind, I wish I can drive so I can go to places without being at the mercy of unruly drivers.

There are more things I would love to explore but I’ll reserve it when I am sixty πŸ™‚

Ladies, I think if you feel like doing something different or learn new things, this is NOW, children are already grown up, chasing their own dream…don’t just sit there because you feel old, be a part of the now generation, be young in mind and spirit.Continue to be an inspiration,be active and you will find a new breath of life.

    So, what am I doing on my birthday? snooze! Z Z Z Z Z Z Β two thumbs up!

next blog pls! the bday dinner πŸ™‚

    Cheers,

(ancient ruins of 400 years old village) Dee Ayn Village

Al baha is a region in Saudi Arabia nestled between Mecca and Al abha. It is known as the region of 1001 towers, though we have seen several towers, which usually at the top of the mountain, mostly are not protected and inhabited either completely gone or partially ruined.

palm trees and banana trees can be seen around the tower

On our way back home, we passed through a town called Al Mikhwah, looking for a restaurant to eat breakfast but everything was closed probably due to Eid holiday. So we continued on until we found a huge bridge with fresh water flowing from the nearby mountain.

Is it a river? Β lake? oasis?

    albahaeid-1-95

We went down under the bridge and had our breakfast with the sound of fresh water and after around twenty minutes a herd of camels apparently the caretaker would like to have some rest too.

    albahaeid-1-43

Dhi Ain Village (thi ain ancient village ) it is also known as Aqaba al-Baha. The 400 year old village was not easy to locate, we have to pass through 25 tunnels at 8,200 ft above sea level to get into al- baha. On top of that, due to numerous spellings we can’t google the place correctly. We have to go to Golden Tulip Hotel to asked for the direction. The scenery along the road was spectacular. There were few view deck along the area where you can stop and take pictures.

    albahaeid-1-39

Before reaching this place, we have seen ruins of abandoned stones and slate towers along the way. It’s amazing to see how the stones were arranged.

We left our hotel early morning and we can’t just pass through without taking pictures. It was all foggy ,breezy but not so cold at this time.

  • Thank YOU!

For the past weeks since I came back from Dubai, I got so busy and was not able to update or is it a case of bloggers block? Hmm or an indication that my life is so stable at the moment πŸ™‚

But today is different… I am inspired!

    Happy…

    Ecstatic…

    So blessed

    And thankful!

My eldest son Edge the photographer is graduating with honor hurrah! He is a graduate of BS in Multi media At APC, Philippines with specialty in Photography at Santa Monica College USA.

I know you thank me many times for giving you another chance to pursue your dream but I also would like to thank YOU !

Thank you for being so resilient in all the difficulties we’ve been through. I was a young mother when I have you. You were so tiny but you gave me the “big” push and an inspiration to continue to tackle every mishap, difficulties in our life. You were only a Β month old when I took my dental board exam. And you just turned a year older when I left you at the care of your grandparents. I took you back when you were six years old and barely four months in Jeddah, a school bus conductor left you all alone, wandering in the streets all by yourself and thanks God, you are so smart to find your way back home with a help from a good samaritan.I was so angry, frustrated, crying, hysterical to every person I met at the Philippines school in Jeddah and even I went to the consul and if IΒ didn’t find you I will go to the King and beg to mobilise the whole Jeddah just to find you!

    I love you sweetheart!

I know you are a very private person and like your younger brother Kevin the Chef, drama in life is a big NO! I better make this short before I heard the word ” mom ” πŸ™‚

Thank you for being a loving son, loving big brother and I am so proud of what you have become, a very responsible and gentlemen, I know you will be the best husband and father you would like to be! and of course the best photographer ! I pray for your good health and more power to succeed! God bless.

Best of all, thank you for being my confidante and friend. Through the years of ups and down, you never failed to amazed me of your strength and your resiliency. Together we have learned lessons in life, together we made our flaws perfect for our love, together we have crossed bridges and together with your brother we made our imperfections perfect for each other.

I also would like to give a BIG Thanks Β to my parents, who is so generous, loving and caring, thank you for the inspirations and strength. Job well done!

” Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome”

    Thank you Lord.

    Congratulations!

    Cheers,

    mom

  • Nobu Hotel-City of dreams or nightmares?

    IMG_5080

I went for a very short trip to Philippines to visit my family. Aboard Malaysian airlines, I opted to travel on Business Class, 9 hours from Jeddah to Kuala Lumpor and another 3 hrs to Manila and an hour and 20 minutes to the island of Catanduanes.

My friends were skeptic about choosing Malaysian Airlines πŸ™‚ Β remember the missing plane? well, I told them, it’s great! my family won’t be spending money to my funeral instead they will received a compensation for my disappearance! Kidding aside, the flight was smooth and on time!

    the chair

    The meal

And so, to make the story a bit shorter, I also choose a new and rated five-star hotel named City of Dreams – Nobu hotel, located near NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport). I booked for two adults, hoping my mom would come with me but she didn’t. At checked in I was told that the deal I got in booking.com was a honeymoon suite with free breakfast for two and a beautiful view of the pool. Hence, I am leaving early morning, the front desk officer asked.

Would you like to take a packed breakfast instead?

Yes, that would be great! but only for one (hence I’m the only one who would travel)

The room… two bed,two glasses, two slippers, two robes everything is for two! I was curious about the Casino, I was surprised , it’s full of gamers huh? What happened to poverty in Philippines? well, I answered my own question, this is only a small part of the population, the big picture is not here.

City of dreams has two more annexed hotel, namely “Crown ” and Hyatt”. It has also a luxurious brand shopping mall and an entertainment place for kids .

It also houses the famous Nobu restaurant. I had a chance to dine at Nobu Restaurant in Dubai, UAE and I enjoyed the seven course meal. But to my dismay, the breakfast buffet at Nobu restaurant in City of dreams was far from I experienced in a five-star hotels.

    My view

    IMG_5133

    The nightmare…

I was not feeling well but I slept good on my first night. As I opened the curtain the following morning, I was shocked! A maintenance man was putting all his gadget right in front of my window…OMG! I hurriedly closed the curtain, it’s good, I was dressed properly.

I took this shot, after I recovered from the shock and I told myself, I need to speak to the duty manager of the day. I should have been notified about the maintenance.

    IMG_5134

    IMG_5132

I was suffering form Laryngitis so my voice was nil Β and yet I managed to relate my complaint to the duty manager and she readily apologised for the inconvenience. She sent a peace-offering to relieved the loss of my voice and hoping my annoyance will disappear

    😦

The same morning I invited my high school friend to have breakfast with me and another confusion came. I was told I only have one complimentary breakfast. What? (rolling my eyes as there was no voice coming out from my mouth).

Again, I asked for a duty manager , This is ridiculous !My room reservation is for two adults and I have two complimentary breakfast upon check in. how come I only have one? They are lucky I loss my voice otherwise , I will be fuming with words…

Anyhow, this is my city of nightmare, I was not satisfied with my stay and I will not think of coming back again.

    Nope, Thank you!
