    Ladies,

” One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood ”

    – Lucius Annaues Seneca

Thank you so much my friends.

and at midnight receiving a call from my sons and read this message:

    ..
Thanks for everything. Thanks for being a great parent no matter how rebellious i become. I like to believe that your level of understanding is better than anyone. Your wisdom matches no other. Even my own. My “smart know it all” version. You have carried kuya and i’s dreams so far. I just wanted to let you know on this special day that. Youve known that i always hated the idea of looking up to someone. But i would like to let u know that you have set the example so high there is no one else other than you to look up to. I was never great at getting gifts for you so yea.
Thanks for all the love and support. Even on your birthday i can only remember all the great gifts you have given me.
I know i don’t show it much but thanks for being a great parent/friend. I hope all the people you have cared for through these years have given you one amazing day.
Happy birthday and much love to you.—–

You bet..welling up till morning..so much happiness and blessings. Thank you Lord.

    Cheers,

  • Home baked Cheesecake Challenge : Flavour #41 Dates and walnut Cheesecake

The end is near for the last 10 flavours of Β Cheesecake Challenge! Countdown begins now…

Flavour #41 Dates and walnut Cheesecake (food for the gods)

    2014-09-05 at 15-05-48

Huh! What a way to start the countdown.. cheesecake for the gods πŸ™‚ this recipe is a combination of dates, walnut and cheese for which it is commonly called ” food for the gods”. I am not sure why and how the cake got its name but let me guess. Dates and walnuts are not common in the Philippines, hence, it’s quite expensive to make it.Gods, may denote rich and famous people. Back then, It was only for the rich and famous who can afford to have this kind of cake, middle class people tried to have it at least during special occasion like Christmas. Well, this is my theory of how this cake got the name” food for the Gods”. Am I making sense?

Alright let’s add cheese to the lavish and rich ingredients of this cake, tailored for the King and Queen as well hahaha, kidding aside, this cheesecake is deliciously rich! Try it and maybe you might say, its heaven! πŸ™‚

Flavour # 41 Dates and walnut Cheesecake
Flavour # 41 Dates and walnut Cheesecake

Saudi Arabia is the homeland of Date palm trees. It is a must to break their fast during Ramadan with dates and water. There are about 300 types of dates in Saudi Arabia. Oh! let’s not get into detail, let’s bake cheesecake!

For a more beautiful presentation of cheesecake for the gods, I choose a different baking pan, so my cheesecake will look like a “chess” board.

    1 1/4 cups cake flour

    1 cup date paste

    1 cup dark brown sugar

    3 pcs eggs

    1/2 tsp baking soda

    1/2 tsp baking powder

    1/2 tsp salt

    Cheese filling:

2 pks (300 g each) Philadelphia cream cheese

    3/4 cup white sugar

    2 eggs

    1/2 cup sour cream

    1/2 cup whipping cream

    Directions:

Pre heat oven Gas mark # 3

Cream butter until fluffy, add sugar slowly while mixing at medium speed. Add eggs one at a time, continue until thoroughly mix. In a separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients, add it to the butter mixture. Add dates and walnuts, continue beating until well combined.

In a separate bowl, combine cheese and sugar,(i used rubber spatula) add egg one at a time. Continue mixing, add sour cream and whipping cream. Mix well until smooth.

    spray the pan with butter.

Place the cake batter at the outer part and the cheese batter at the inner side. Repeat the other way on the second set.

Bake for 40 minutes. Let it cool for another hour before decorating.

  • Bonding time at Eric Zemmour, Jeddah KSA

Last week, I blogged about 5’Os meeting 6’Os…what about if 2’Os to be.. meet double 5 ?? A mother and daughter bonding?

I wish! Well, having only two sons without a daughter is also fun… we enjoy travelling together, we share same interest like photography and food but it’s nothing like .. let’s go to salon…let’s pamper ourselves πŸ™‚

    1380758_847494275263078_1106245212110030503_n

So, I asked Kristine my daughters’ friend, she is like my daughter and one of the pioneer members of the “Kids Fun Club” I organised and handled from 2001-2010. Imagine.., she was only 6 yrs. old then..and now a blooming lovely lady. Yakks! Β I think I felt I am on my 60s!

    #throwback I miss you all!

    I miss you all!

We went to ‘Eric Zemmour” a luxurious hair salon in Rawdah District, Jeddah KSA. To my surprise, this is the same staff in E-spa where I used to do my hair and my regular gym routine. Hmmm, I wonder what they gonna do with my membership? I believe they still owe me 2-3 months, Let’s wait and see πŸ™‚

Anyhow, back to beauty regimen, I decided to have a new colour and Kristine choose to do her nails.

    IMG_9055

I choose a bit dark colour to cover my grey hair and trim down my hair. Well, another coincidence, my hair stylist name is also Meriam, She is from Morroco, her hand is soft which is good for my delicate scalp.

    IMG_9056

It’s friday and there were men still working outside the building, so I guess there was some water difficulty somewhere that they used cold mineral water to rinse my hair πŸ™‚ I like it though, cool and the chair massage was on, so kind of tickly to my ear and back hahahaΒ way to go!

Well, what’s your verdict?… not bad for soon to be double 5!

And after salon, of course, we went to The Cheesecake factory, I ordered skinnylicious veggie burger unfortunately, it was not available, so it’s Friday..no diet… Enjoy! huh! I ate all the french fries on the side ( I was so engrossed to our conversation ) Excuses :-)… I know! Seriously, It was a beautiful night for two beautiful ladies…psst! we forego of cheesecake, Our tummy was already complaining so we ended the night with good smile and sweet memories.

Thank you Kristine, hope to see you more often while your still on holiday.

Ladies, my verdict? it’s ok! not bad…good experience at Eric Zemmour.

Did I mentioned the cost? πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ secret! oh well, the hair cut cost 150 SR and one hair colour cost SR380. Expensive??

  • My Jeddah food trip with Chef Kevin

I am so happy to savour the taste of Ramadan Iftar with my youngest son, Chef Kevin. He was here for short holiday before he goes to work as trainee at J.W Marquis Marriott Hotel in Dubai, UAE. Imagine how my tummy jumped with glee and my brain twisted for more calories and my heart was pumping with joy, suddenly…sadness comes when I can not zipped in my trouser πŸ™‚ anymore! hahaha anyway, here’s some photos I took via iPhone 4 ! yes! say that again! still in iPhone 4? ! πŸ™‚

1st stop – where else! of course at tito nabil’s house. He is a good lebanese cook! We ate with gusto every time! Hummos fattah, wara enab, yogurt hmmm so yummy!

2nd stop – Cheesecake Factory, it seems every table has its own service staff, the service and the food are both fantastic.

3rd stop – Texas Road house, well again and again, this is my favourite!

4th stop – Mugg and Bean, not so impressive but the conversation was superb!

5th stop – Romero – one of the best! If you love Mediterranean cuisine and a romantic place, this fine restaurant is highly recommended. From the starter to the main dish, we enjoyed it all!

    6th stop – al ashami – Shawerma overload πŸ˜‰

    IMG_8808

7th stop – of course, I also prepared some dish for my youngest chef!

    IMG_8821 IMG_8845

8th stop – Pizza huh! a disaster, service is not good and the food is not even half italian in taste 😦

at the end before his flight to Dubai, we went to marble slab creamery, had a fresh mixed ice cream and a little show of catching the scooped ice cream, enjoy!

    Cheers,

    Jamilamimi

  • Texas at Jeddah

    IMG_0093

Friday the 13th, we had lunch at Texas Roadhouse in Thalia St. At 1:30 in the afternoon we were lucky to find a seat easy. The place was not so crowded like before, when it was newly opened. Upon entering, a smiling staffΒ  greeted us and we were guidedΒ to our table and a fresh-baked bread and butter was served immediately.

    IMG_0085

On the table, we found a small tin pail of peanuts, we were thinking hmmm. maybe the order will take long to be served, but no, we ordered steak and it was served just about 15 – 20 minutes.

    IMG_0084

The meat was so tender and deliciously insane!

  • Weekly Photo Challenge: Room

I have a 72 years old male patient came in for consultation. His main concern..”spaces in front of the two front teeth”.

    Him: Can you do something?

    DSC_0268safi

Me: Yes, I can.. but your teeth will look a bit wider and longer .

Him: would it look nice? will it improve my appearance?

Me: (looking at the other adjacent teeth, considering his oral hygiene) If only to close the space at the middle, maybe 20%! but lets start first in cleaning your teeth so I can get the real shade of the teeth. He agreed and I proceeded to remove the old composite filling and restored the teeth with direct composite veneer.(E.max Β direct).

His eyes beamed at the prospect of having 20% improvement. However, when I handed him the mirror, he was so pleased to look at his front teeth and proceeded to do the rest of his teeth. the rest is history, πŸ™‚ It feels good to see him very happy.
