  • Weekly Photo Challenge – Trio

I took this picture on my recent trip to Polynesian Culture Centre in the Islands of Hawaii. Although every village in the Island had shown their culture through dancing, this three Samoa dancers took my attention because of their vibrant energy while dancing.

  • My Oahu escapades : Lanai look out to Sandy beach park (part 2/5)

    2015-10-03 at 02-18-12

We tried to wake up early to get the glimpsed of early sunrise but we failed obviously, as we headed to Kalaniana’ole highway (Hwy 72) the sun was already up.

    2015-10-03 at 02-06-21

We stop to a  little corner before heading to Lanai look out, just to take a panoramic view of the city. We saw a middle-aged man, walking leisurely , I wonder where is the destination? The view was spectacular! Alright, we didn’t get to sunrise what about coming back here at sunset?

    Oh yeah! good idea!

    2015-10-02 at 11-24-50

Omg! Oh my! what a nice view!., I think I uttered these words ten times if not more 🙂

    2015-10-02 at 11-38-32

Lanai look out is on the south-eastern shore, nestled behind Koko crater and not too far from Hanauma bay. There’s a small pull-out /parking area to view and take pictures.

    2015-10-03 at 03-14-17

The southward view is amazing and a piled of an interesting looking eroded rocks can be seen, actually we came back twice and still feels good to come back more 🙂

After taking a few shots, we went further more.. again Omg!

    2015-10-03 at 03-02-40

Finally we arrived at Sandy beach park, as I laid down my things, appreciating the beauty of the sea,the lifeguard approached us not to swim further as the current was so strong and dangerous. I watched with awe how one surfer calmly wait for the waves and enjoy his time. The impressive pounding shortwaves took my camera in bursts shots 🙂

When the sun started to go down, we hurriedly went back to the first corner stop so I can shot the sunset overlooking the panoramic view of the island.

And of course, I won’t leave Waikalani without taking photos of flowers along the road 🙂

The drive to Pali point was as exciting as the sceneries and the wind, oh my! It was windy and cold but I love every minute of it. After all, Pali point is known for strong and howling wind!

    2015-09-30 at 06-57-58

I took this photo to show how the grasses swayed along the gust of wind. really? hmm it doesn’t look like it 🙂

Ladies, to enjoy the scenery comfortably, bring along some heavy shirts to protect yourself from the cold wind, there’s no entry fee but a $3  for car park is a must.

    2015-10-04 at 07-32-37

What’s a holiday in Honolulu without visiting the world-famous Waikiki beach! This the most vibrant, populated gathering of all tourist around the world. We walk along the avenue where mostly of high-end designer stores lined up and finally we found Oakley store where we can customised my bro sunglasses :-). I was tempted to get into the Prada and Louis Vuitton but I refrained, knowing this is not my first intention of being here anyway. Wow! Is that me? Beautybeyondfifty has a self-control 🙂 for shopping aiyeeh 🙂

  • California Dream: Los Angeles to Santa Monica (Part 2)

One of the highlights of my visit to California besides visiting my two sons was the excitement of meeting my uncle family and the arrival of my best friend from Arkansa who I haven’t seen for 32 years. Hence, we won’t be able to fit in at my eldest son apartment , we decided to rent a one bedroom apartment at Santa Monica. We rented the place using the app”airbnb”. The place was accessible to all the places we would like to go, safe, with parking area and  Meenu, the owner, is very friendly.

I would say, this trip was a combination of road trip and food trip..of course! what else? it’s a HOLIDAY 🙂

The Boiling crab at Korean Town – my take? Superb!

Black bear diner at Long beach

    Shabu- Shabu at Santa Monica

    Korean Barbecue at Korean Town

and a lot more..burp! I know ladies, yes I gained 3 kilos, lol!

I will need a lot of inspiration to exercise and get rid of all the extra fats 🙂

Did I see Hollywood? or any touristic site? Well, I would love to.. but with the time constrained I opted to just go with the flow, wherever and whatever our mind and body takes us.

and another day has ended , another road trip and more food trip to come 🙂

  • California Dream : Los Angeles to Santa Catalina Island (part 1)

    2015-09-20 at 07-32-15

With my 29 years of being an Expatriate in Saudi Arabia, I have never experienced a month-long holiday without a conference or dental meeting to attend to. I haven’t seen my eldest son for two years since he moved to Santa Monica, CA. I was so excited that I packed my luggage a week before my departure, only to unpacked it a day before 🙂 Why? Because he said, the weather is hot , just bring summer clothes (shirt and short), huh! What about my pictorial? I have a very talented photographer (that’s my eldest :-)) in hand, I need a nicer clothes for every place I am going to.. click! click! why not? hahaha I know, you’re smiling and smiling.. I am not a model.. of anything..I am 56 years old, a mother of two , my goodness!

    2015-09-18 at 09-14-26

but who cares? I managed to posed, hahaha that’s one thing my son can’t refused:-)

And so, touchdown Los Angeles at 7pm and went to Catalina Express at Avalon port, Long Beach early morning of Sept.18, 2015. that was an awesome one hour Ferry boat trip .. smooth sailing, quiet and peaceful.

    2015-09-18 at 21-31-01

My youngest son, Chef Kevin who spent 3 years in Switzerland to finish his Bachelor Degree in Culinary Arts had signed a year contract with Catalina Island Company, as a management trainee.I can’t expressed in words, how happy I was ..just looked at my smile and enjoy the scenery. If you need more information : http://www.catalinachamber.com/catalina/where-is-catalina please visit the site.http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/island-company or visit the Island itself and have a great holiday!

As the sun rises up, we saw Princess cruise ship, sailing near Catalina Island.

    2015-09-18 at 22-27-13

    and a lot more 🙂

    2015-09-19 at 00-10-18

Chef Kevin was in the meeting when we arrived, while waiting we took our breakfast at the Pancake Cottage Restaurant. The place is clean, no traffic , I didn’t see a lot of cars, mostly golf car or bicycles. There are a lot of hotel accommodation to choose from but we simply opted for Atwater Hotel. A lot of restaurant around the areas too, not to mention an arcade of shopping stalls ( no shopping pls!). We dine at Avalon Grille, of course where Chef Kevin works! We also tried Bluewater Avalon Seafood Restaurant, Restorante Villa Portofino, Big Olafs,Mr. Nings Chinese Garden,Mexican Restaurant..Oh yeah it’s a food trip for us!

    Atwater Hotel
    Hotel Atwater

While our main reason of being in the Island was to see Chef Kevin, we also enjoyed our food trip and had an East End Adventure tour of the Island. Traveling to 1500 feet above sea level in H1 Hummer, wow! the scenery was superb and breathtaking !

    2015-09-20 at 07-24-45 2015-09-20 at 07-31-21

We also saw Bisons/Buffalo,ground squirrel ,a fox and even a bald eagle which I was not able to take a picture. If I was going to take this trip again, I will not bring a camera to enjoy the trip and the scenery. It was an overwhelming experience of taking the photos and enjoying the natural beauty of the scenery. My photos did not do justice , this is a well worth the trip.

    2015-09-20 at 08-09-02

    2015-09-20 at 08-08-44

And of course, I will not leave the Island without trying one of their spa treatment. Another experience I would recommend after a long day of touring the island.

and a day trip to Avalon Theatre 🙂

a glimpse of Catalina ballroom 🙂

    IMG_2144 IMG_2146

and the famous Descanso beach club which we were not able to visit but definitely will be on my top priority next visit 🙂
