It’s been two days that i wasn’t feeling good (grumpy tummy!) but I have to go to work to relieve’s one’s tooth ache, to repair broken crowns etc… it so ironic to take care of others suffering and forgets your own!
My best friend had just arrived and will stay for a short holiday, so I met her for lunch…Oh, how I wish to stay more and reminisce the good old-time but my tummy was growling.. can’t really concentrate!
Ramadan had just started, it’s a month of fasting and yet every restaurant big or small are fully decorated and has buffet of each own, special offer to those who wants to celebrate the “futur” (breaking the fast as in breakfast 🙂 ) in style! Hmm how can I ? grumpy tummy 😦
So, I stayed home, went to bed, literally crawling in pain… the four corner of the room seems eight to my eyes, holding my tummy in fetal position, i don’t know for how long I have been in that position, I guess I passed out!
When I woke up, It was already midnight, the pain was bearable and I got the four corners right! Oh well, I’m fifty-three (53) visions fades and wrinkles comes in! Seriously, being alone is not easy but no complains, life goes on,I am glad that I am still breathing and kicking! 🙂
Alright grumpy tummy, what shall I do to you? A cup of green tea?
I tried all the remedy but to no avail, neither grumpy tummy nor Mr. sleep cooperated so I took my pencils started to draw a woman, took my brushes and used my coffee as my medium for painting.
“A woman is like a tea bag, you will never know how strong she is until you put her in hot water ” – Eleanor Roosevelt
So, grumpy tummy here are my thoughts for the day!

I was looking for my cheque book to pay the house rent, I came across this old picture of mine taken in Kan Zaman Restaurant 1993 ,Amman, Jordan. It’s an old farm-house converted into classical arabic restaurant.
I wonder, why i was carrying a jug on my head? Tourist curiosity? ha ha ha
Well, I went into research hmmm…and found a famous painting by J. Vermeer, “a young woman with a water jug “or lets say a pitcher in her hand.http://www.terraingallery.org/Vermeer-Woman-Jug-JJ-RJ.htm
Vermeer’s Young woman with a water jug – and WHAT MEN AND WOMEN ARE HOPING FOR MARRIAGE by Julie and Robert Jensen.
Aesthetic realism shows that the questions of marriage are aesthetic questions, answered in art.
Though we felt we needed each other, we also resented each other, because too much we used our care for each other to put the rest of the world aside. In his 1964 lecture, The Furious Aesthetics of Marriage, Eli Siegel explains:
To marry a person has been, in the history of love and marriage, the finding of a shelter against the world as unpleasant….Love, in other words, can be a means of shelter from a unkind world,…or it can be a means of intensifying, affirming, extending, subtilizing a care for the world.
Vermeer’s purpose, as he looked at this woman, was to use her as a means of “intensifying, affirming, extending, subtilizing a care for the world.”
I am not sure, if you continued reading the article but let me do my realistic (aesthetic) interpretation of my picture, whether i am an artist or not.
I think every woman carries a water jug , the JUG represents the multifunction existence of a woman.Ladies can juggle task (multi tasking), work for longer hours and yet when she comes home every one expect her to bring home dinner! She is very delicate and soft but noticed her other hand on her waist, it resemble strength and balance but how long do you think she can carry the jug?
WATER represents the flow of life.Hmmm, I wonder whether it is cold or hot? Probably when she is mad , she carries hot water! 😦 It is up to her to carry the weight or let someone carry it for her or look for someone to help her. She can carry it empty, half empty, half full or full.
yey! What i am talking about?
Ladies, would you help me out?

Age is a number that usually we are not amused to count. I came to Jeddah 1987, armed with a double Bachelor degree, a lot of my patients commented that I am too young to be a Doctor…” Whatttt..don’t tell me you went to school when your teeth are just erupting???” At that time, I am not pleased, I like to look matured, may be 10 years more than my age. I look like a child who is trying hard to wear a white coat to look like a doctor. Appearance really matters in this country because if you look around they really look matured more than their age.
That was then, now fifty and beyond wants to look naturally. Time have passed, you have made a marked in people’s mind, whether it is your patients, your friend, family and acquaintances. That’s the good thing being in your golden years, you have achieved a lot that a formal introduction is not needed, unless you haven’t change your old self, I mean your appearance in particular.
If you’re wearing the same hairstyle century ago, now is the time to change… try finding a good salon that will cut and color your hair according to your skin tone.
Check your wardrobe; check the colors of your clothes…are you in gray or black shades? There’s nothing wrong with black, but if you’re wearing black at all times, think! Are you hiding something? May be its time to shade those extra kilos! Wear something different, red? Blue? Yellow or maybe choose lighter shades that will make your day better, which will make you feel different if not beautiful. Remember when you feel good, you look beautiful inside out.
If you haven’t been in SPA, now is the time to pamper yourself. You’re under stress? Go shopping; buy the things you really want, no money? Well, then just look at it ha ha ha ha, well at least you did some exercise (walking around mall), you see beautiful people who will inspire your day, instead of just sitting at home, cleaning, ironing, cooking etc. Don’t feel guilty, you’re doing these things every day, have time for yourself too!
Aging is a continuous process, we cannot hold it, rich and famous looks fabulous because they have means, domestic helper, PA, etc. a lot of things that we normal ladies doesn’t have… but you know what, we have ourselves, this is the time to think about YOU, if you don’t? Who else would?
It’s natural for us, to think about our children, we can afford to buy them PSP, X-box, a thousand worth of clothes/shoes but what we got for ourselves?twenty riyals worth of slippers? You’re probably busy doing household chores that you just clipped back your hair, wear old clothes, and ignore the mirror. huh! It’s about time..wake up, do something for yourself, at least pamper yourself once a week, a month, find time to amuse yourself.
Stress? find something to divert, dance, yes dance even you’re alone, do exercise…this is beneficial to your body and mind…declare a day off! kids has day off…dad has a day off..even a helper has a day off…why not YOU!
Let’s go ladies… see you on Thursday? LADIES ONLY..lol!

As I get out from my office to clinic room, I met my old-time patient with his wife and twin daughters., already grown up and had just recently finished her medical training in USA. I started the conversation:
Me: Congratulations! so whats next? marriage?
Father/mother: oh! she gained a lot of weight, she has to lose weight first.. then find the right man.,marry and have baby then gained weight! ha ha ha ha
Me: Lol! are you gonna work after marriage?
Mother: She has to work..I am an engineer but i became a full time stay at home mom, so boring..not good, I am dependent to what my husband says.
Me: why do you regret? look at your daughter, she is now a medical doctor..the twin is a special child being at home, you took care of them.
Mother: Oh! I am tired..i dont have my own money, i have to beg for money (which the father resisted, as I see his eyes and face turned red)
Father: don’t say that, i provided everything, you have a nice house, a car, a helper and you can buy anything you want
Mother: but you have to check and ask questions a lot!
Me: If i will be given another chance, another life, i would rather be a stay at home mom than a career woman. All eyes on me whoaaaa!
Well, let me explain..its always greener at the other end as they claimed but there’s a big difference between a PLAIN housewife (who does everything from cleaning the house, to ironing, washing and taking care of the children and the husband) to stay-at home wife (who has helper and a nanny, all she has to do is to supervise them, help the children in their studies and take care of the family) to career woman (who use her education to fulfill what she wants to become and yet still have time to take care of the children and the family) to a full-time career woman (who earns a living to survive and yet still take care of the family)
So you see what I mean? I am traditional but progressive in a way, I like to work but i also want my husband to provide for everything. If I will be given a choice once more (which is ridiculous to ask..i’m stuck and retiring) I rather have my own clinic.., work for 4 hrs and take care of the children, let the helper do the household chores and let me take care of my children, guide them in their studies, have fun and spend time with my husband. I don’ t want to be a career woman and still comes home and take care of the household chores.
ahhh..oppps..pinch me! i am awake..in reality..i am fifty two years old, still working, professionally successful, earning a living , house cleaner, cook, errand girl,in short a “domestic diva”!
Ladies, if you only knew, I’ll take your shoes but of course you will never understand because for sure you wanted to be on my shoes too!
To be or not to be..the answer is…..
