  • More summits to climb

dinner date at see-restaurant,Luzern lake Switzerland

Eighteen years ago, I could not imagine how my life would be without you on my side. Since you were born, you gave us the moments, the high points, it doesn’t matter how you make me cry, how you gave me that expressions of “knowing it all”, how you utter those words, “of being alone most of the time, of not being there when you needed me”, I knew it was just a transition of adolescence to an independent young adult (somehow, a mixed emotions) and how you always differ or argue to my views.. you always get away with your antics of “hit and miss” but in my heart I knew, you are the person who always stick to what you believes in and not easily be persuaded unless the circumstances has been patiently explained. You are the kindest person that a friend could ever have, always supportive and caring.

I always remember the first: first time you look at us and smile, first time to roll, walk and run, first time to talk, first time to go to school, first baseball game, first dance, and first girlfriend. How about the last time? Yes, I also remember the last time: last time you gave me flowers and b-day notes, last time you slept in my room, last time you were in the honor roll, last time you hug and kissed me in front of your classmates. If I am going to write all the first and last time, words are not enough, because I remember all the moments and highlights of your existence.

    see-restaurant

We have experienced a roller coaster of emotions, the ups and downs of life…the transitions of growing up, of being a family of different addresses and now you are embarking to another chapter, another highlight, another summit  and I know, the path is not as easy as it may seem. But hey! I trust you and it’s always proven when Kevin wants Kevin gets! (Wink)When Kevin said he will do it, he will with flying colors(another wink).

Letting go is not always easy but I know your new-found independence is a bittersweet moments for me, believe it or not, I haven’t visited your empty room yet, I don’t want to feel your absence. You know how happy I am for you to be in that position; this is the most significance steps in your life that I don’t want to miss and rest assured you will always be on my thoughts and prayers.

my kevs at the lobby of Cesar Ritz College of Switzerland

So my dear Kevin, I wish you good health and may you have more birthdays to come and more summits to climb, WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH, Happy happy birthday!

  • Weekly photo challenge: Everyday Life

Making of “Walis tingting” a native broom sticks made of palm leaf ribs used daily in cleaning houses in remote area of Katanghawan Island in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, Philippines.

With the advent of technology where there’s a lot of modern cleaning items like vacuum or rakes on sale, I wonder if this is still popular in city houses. For this man, it’s a way of daily life whether it’s for his own use or for sale in the nearby island.

  • Coffee and Cream Adventures continues with sweet spices: Nurture Spa Village

After Tugawe rendezvous,we arrived Manila at an early hour of 6:00 am. We got our new bag of clothes and off to Nurture Spa Village in Tagaytay City. When children are already grown up, it is not easy to decide where to go. Each one has each own interest, unlike when they were young, take them to any places, give them toys, ice cream, chocolates and cakes, they squeeze you with hug and kisses. Now?? a lot of choices, take them to movie (what kind?), food (what type?)shopping (where?)places (with whom?)Pictures(NO!) etc..lol!Run out of ideas? you bet!

Anyhow,i thought about Spa! yes, why not?, would it be great having  bodymassage in one place? Relaxation en grande! Unfortunately, it was raining so hard that we were not able to tour around Tagaytay, nothing much to do and having body and facial massage is just right at the moment. YES??? NO to my youngest son, he said ” I don’t wanna be touch”, it took us awhile to convinced him, at least facial and foot spa will do for now. So, here’s our adventure in pictures:

  • Coffee and Cream, goes to … Tugawe Island Cove Resort (honeymoon 101)

Coffee and cream? Yes, that’s how my mom used to call us, “Kape at gatas” whenever she looks at my husband of 28 years. Being married for that long years doesn’t give us a credit as a perfect couple. Like other couples we have the ups and down of marriage and as my friend puts it, we should believe in the sanctity of marriage, no matter what situation you are in. To rekindle the romance, we decided to go to an island for our “honeymoon 101”, so; here we go…the perfect place for honeymooners and the enemies alike.

    shores of Tugawe cove

Tugawe island cove resort is in Caramoan, Camarines Sur. We travelled by plane (1hr and 10 min) from Manila to Virac, Catanduanes, and then by land (1 hour) to Codon port

    Codon port

where we were fetched by Blanca, our super butler in a small boat of Tugawe resort,

Tugawe boat with Blanca- our super butler

around 45 min from Codon to Tugawe. We were greeted by staffs politely and were ushered to our Cabana with welcome drink of ice tea in a pitcher.

    Cabana-front balcony view

The place was amazingly clean, refreshing and so serene, aha! I told my husband, I can shout, curse…Let it all out and no one would even care and he said the same but with more love and affection that he can do whatever he wants (wink! you know what I mean).

    first day upon checked -in

We are both beyond our golden years and we’re glad we came when our knees are still in good condition otherwise we would just be happy in our cabana balcony looking at the blue sky and the clear ocean.

    infinity pool

Going uphill to the infinity pool and up more to eat in the restaurant was a bit troublesome but worth every step. The foods are fairly great considering the remoteness of the area.

    lighthouse

We went up more to see the lighthouse which is still under construction, the place is unbelievably awesome.

Let no one who loves be unhappy, even love unreturned has its rainbow -James M. Burrie

Though there was no spectacular sunset, there was rainbow, I just wished I had a better camera to begin with but I think my canon point and shoot did fairly well.

    my first red wine

At night, the lights at the pool and the sea breeze was so romantic to say “I do” once more, but they said don’t commit the same mistake, so we didn’t (hehehehe), nevertheless, my husband with the help of the staff gathered some fresh flowers and open a bottle of red wine to celebrate a never-ending story of love, hate and affection. Whoooh oh la Ia…I bet at one point reading my blog, I can see a smile on your face. Perfect evening for an imperfect couple equals a happy ending. Achhinnng!

People are not perfect… very often the relationships that are strongest are those where people have worked through big crises, but they’ve had to work through them. So the challenge to us is to work through that.
    Patricia Hewitt

The following morning, after breakfast we went island hopping, as usual Blanca (with Pay mario and pito) were there to guide and help us to have a whole day of fun and made sure everything was in… like kayak, snorkels, table and umbrella and of course

    picnic a lacarte (bicol style)

the foods were wrapped in banana leaves, different drinks in cooler with ice ohhh Blanca you made our day!thank you so much.

    katanghawan island

First stop: Katanghawan island, 30 minutes boat ride from Tugawe, a part of the island serves as a venue  to shoot TV episodes of “survivor US”, white sands, clear blue sky and sea, snorkeling, fresh coconut drink.

    Clear blue
    tinago island

2nd stop: Tinago island, 40 min from Katanghawan. As the name implies “tinago”meaning “hidden” marvelous island surrounded by rocks and green mountains.

    Kayaking

A perfect place to camp for a couple who love nature. We did Kayaking, swimming and ate our “baon”packed lunch. The next time we come around, oh yes, we would love to come back again with full camping gear and a charcoal for grilling a freshly catch fish of the day!

fine sand, clear water so perfect!
    tayak lake

3rd stop: Tayak lake 30 min from Tinago island. We hiked for about 15 minutes from the shore lines and walla! from blue water to green water, amazing Tayak lake!

    Pitugo bay

4th stop: Pitogo bay, as i ran out of camera battery, i also ran out of words to describe the hidden paradise of Caramoan islands.

    stones lines the shores

In here, instead of white fine sand, piles of smooth-edged white and red-black stones line the shores as if, it was purposely laid out. Remarkable beauty of nature!

this photo was taken with iphone4

Oh before i forget, let me introduce Kevin the great horn-bill of Tugawe, coincidentally same name of my youngest son.

    Kevin- the great Horn bill

On the way back to Manila, the weather was not that great so we have to re-route,it took us about an hour by boat to reach the nearest town from Tugawe,

3 in one, not an easy ride to up and down the hill and zigzag road

another 40 min motorbike ride to Guihalo port,

    2 hrs in ferry-boat

2 hrs ferry-boat trip to Naga and another 9 hrs bus ride to Manila. Would i take this trip again?Oh yes! an adventure of a lifetime, Thank you coffee and cream, let’s drink to that, Cheers!

Herzon(Supervisor) and Blanca (butler) Thank you so much!

  • Abaya – a trend in fashion 2012 collections

Abaya is a long loose black robe traditionally worn by Muslim women.I have seen the evolution of the design from 1987 to the present. When I first came to Saudi Arabia, Abaya is not a must for non-Muslim foreigner to wear in public. We usually go out in public with modest dresses , blouse and trouser. We started to wear abaya and tarha in public during Gulf war. At first, I refused to wear black, so I wore blue abaya then dark brown until later on, I wore the traditional black abaya and tarha (black headscarf). I also got used wearing it, that sometimes when I’m out of KSA, i felt naked on the first day without wearing abaya.. strange but I guess its true!

With in recent years, a lot of fashionable Abaya became a trend in public. Different fabrics and colorful design for teenagers, embroidered and tailored with swarovski elements for women. I have different kinds of Abayas, I have abaya for daily use, for party, for meetings and for fishmarket. My friend has abaya according to what shoes she is wearing, whether its high-heeled or flat shoes.

Today, we went to a Lebanese abaya-maker, we wanted something different and practical to wear.

    model: lyn

This abaya has no opening on the front, you wear it like a shirt, and it looks like its tailored like a butterfly.

    model: malou

A very practical abaya with a hood at the back, and well arm fitted sleeves.

    model:mimi

Another design with two pockets on each side.

    models: mimi-lyn-malou

a good colored combination of black and grey, black and blue

So ladies, which abaya do you like?

  • Serenata shines at seven

Its been awhile i haven’t written anything in my blog and i wont miss this opportunity to share with you the spectacular show of Serenata Children’s Choir and String Chamber Orchestra. How i wished i was able to take more pictures but i opted to listen and watched the show instead of doing all the clicks!

The musical presentation was under the musical direction of Ms. Sylvia de los Santos and was held in American International School of Jeddah last Feb. 6, 2012. Though my children were never a part of the show, I am always looking forward to attend the yearly presentation. I am amazed by  their talent and the hard work behind the journey of Serenata, not to mention their humble objective of promoting the Filipino cultural values and to extend financial help to well deserved students…Truly an inspiring organization…HurrAY!

  • My bonsai diary

    The mini Bonsai kit

“Stressed out by your job?” you bet, I am! My youngest son has a “twin brother” Kevs the second, he gave me a mini Bonsai kit, I believed no matter how good you are… hiding your inner feelings, people see it, and the closer they are to you, the more sensitive they are to feel your mood. I thank you Kevs2 for your thoughtfulness.

Though my level of stress is tolerable, I like to do new things and growing bonsai is not a bad idea at all. Let’s see how this works for me:

    cute!

Day 1 : the kit includes a pot,Jack Pine seeds, a peat pellet and small scissors and small booklet of introduction to the beauty of bonsai and how to grow your own bonsai. Keeping my fingers crossed here we go!

    pine seeds soak in water

it has five (5) pieces of pine seeds, soak in water for 24 hrs.

Day 2: place seeds in damp paper towel, seal and place it into a plastic bag and cold stratify for 7 days in the refrigerator.

    Day 7:

    peat pellet in a tray

After the pellet has expanded, spread the seeds over it, gently pressing,… alright, I’m feeling excited..huh! my level of stress seems going down 🙂 place the pellet in bonsai pot and set in a tray filled with about 1/4 inch of water.

    expanded pellet

I set the tray besides my window, inside my room, keeping the soil moist everyday. The first thing I do every morning, as i get up from my bed..”ohayou” or sometimes “Zao shang hao” or ” sabah al kheir” “magandang umaga” simply ” good morning my bonsai” ..hahahaha heard of linguist bonsai!

    Day 9: waiting period

    waiting

I’m excited to see whether a sprout of leaves or any sign of growth which will definitely makes my day! Ahhh it seems my stress is going up instead of going down:-) just kidding.

    Day 12 Yes!

    awesome!

What a beautiful sight…awesome day..my pine seeds are growing 🙂

    Day 13 growing more!

    growing!

At some point, my stress is getting higher, knowing my bonsai is growing, apprehensive that i may not see it the following morning, however ..this gets me up with a smile everyday!

    Day 16 more!

    more!

o la la, 🙂 my bonsai is growing more and more…

    Day 18 more and more

    more and more

I’m so happy, seeing my pine seeds growing makes my stress levels goes down, hmmm I believed it’s working!

  • Christmas in Saudi Arabia- how do we celebrate?

It’s not easy to celebrate Christmas in a place like Saudi Arabia, where almost everything is forbidden like, mixed party, religious activities for non-Muslim etc, and what more if you are home away from home meaning, your family are not complete. A lot of OFW (overseas Filipino workers) are home alone (no wife or husband or children) it is really depressing but in spite of the homesickness, the spirit of Christmas overcome the loneliness.

I am lucky to have my youngest son with me, my brothers and my friends and with the advent of technology,” Skype “group video call made the distance a bit closer, I was able to see and talk  to my parents, my eldest son and my brothers, their wife and their children simultaneously.

However, a family will always be incomplete without a father, my husband is so distant, I wonder how much the cost of bottle of beer or a case maybe ,compared to the cost of calling and hearing the voices of his family. Virac, Catanduanes is an island but internet cafe is amazingly around each corner, so I don’t think internet connection is a problem. Probably a better quote would be “sorry ka na lang mas mahal ko ang beer” oh so, it’s not the price! 😦 , in fairness, I got a short text greetings of “Merry Christmas”.Ahhh at least in between the “gulf”,”crack” and jokes!!!

my TFCK family, I miss u all

Oh well, life continues and i am so thankful for the blessings in spite of my pain (physical and emotional) I am still functionally alive and able.

    old and new friends

I have seen old and new friends with their family, though, it gives some twist in my heart, I am thankful and lucky with my two sons.I am also thankful to received messages of greetings from a lot of friends ,relatives and a “name” poem, and I am happy to share it to you:

    M-ost eloquent

    I- instrument of beauty; a

    M- mirror of life

    I-n the crest of wave.

    S-uch irresistible beauty beyond

    U-nderstanding yet

    A-mazingly spontaneous,

    R-eaching out to share the

    E-xcitement and

    Z-est for life

author: Joey,… thank you, though we see each other only once or twice in a year. to say “hi and bye”, I am glad to received this on 25th of December.
